Can we just take stock of where we are?

7 months ago, we were playing dreadful Nuno-ball and legitimately didn’t look like we belonged in even the top half of the league.

7 months later:
- We have Conte (and he’s sticking around)
- Landed Bentancur and Kulusevski in the January window.
- Embarrassed Woolwich in one of the most consequential NLDs in recent memory.
- Made it back to Champion’s League
- Got a massive investment ENIC, finally.
- Are being linked with some serious world class talent, like Bastoni and Perisic, among others.

And we are actually looking forward to next season, with more squad depth, a ridiculously good back line, upgraded wing backs, more depth up front, and legitimate aspirations for competing for a trophy.

What a change in 7 months!
… and our first signing is a 34 year old goalkeeper on a free… I’m not averse to a bargain, but I’m looking forward to a signing that hasn’t got ‘Levy-time’ written all over it ..

I do wonder if Conte was happy with what he saw from Doherty during the last couple of months and decided he just wants 1 new RWB to replace Emerson, Doherty has at least a couple of years left in him at PL level and young talented English understudy wouldn't be a bad shout IMO, he will get plenty of game time considering how hard our wing backs have to work in this system - feels like Reggie has seriously struggled with injuries since Conte came in. Also goes some way to solving our HG conundrum.
Yeah I think you're spot on- have a feeling Doherty Spence will be our 2 RWB options, with the option of Perisic as RWB cover as he is two footed.

I would ignore the report from the Daily Mail about us being linked with ASM, Richarlison, Adama... seems like nonsense.

That aside, I think reporting suggests this is very realistic for our incomings:

Bastoni- LCB
Perisic- LWB
Jesus- CF/RW
Bissouma/JWP- CM
Spence- RWB

Those 5 + Forster which is already done, adds up to the 6 that Conte apparently wants.

Amazing signing if it happens. Yes he is 33 but that still is probably 2 years left as one of the worlds best wing backs who can cover LWB, RWB and also attacking wing positions.

Could be the thinking.

Still seems somewhat underwhelming to go with Doherty/Spence for the season if you factor in Perisic/Bastoni/new CM coming into the starting XI. RWB would stand out as the only meh position.

I know Doherty had a good spell but I'm not ready to say he should be the starting wingback for a PL/CL competing team.

It could be that, as some have suggested, Royal is kept on as cover for RWB and RCB.
Bastoni (or similar) in and Sanchez and Rodon out.

You're right, but there aren't any great options on the market at RWB like LWB.

Eg Perisic was stand out for Inter this season, while Kostic was best player for EL winners.
