That's uncalled for. The lad has been a true professional by all accounts and doing all the right things. Conte has praised him, and from the latest tweet so has Mourinho. He hasn't done a Bergwijn and knuckles down in training to earn game time the right way. So no need to make fun of him.

So, an absolutely harmless joke on the word ‘defender’ on a (sometimes ruthless) internet forum is ‘uncalled for’ now?

Calm down, Joe.

Lenglet on loan is a waste of a non HG spot.

He didn't make Barcelona's team despite them struggling, would be a really poor move.

If it's Conte approved I guess we go for it, he's left sided and clearly good on the ball, just seems to be prone to dumb errors.

But after being linked with Pau Torres, Bastoni & Gvardiol it would be a pretty big step down .. hopefully our other targets don't go the same way.

Leeds & Everton wanting peak value.
Inter nothing but a pain in the arse.
Ajax pleading poverty over Berg.

Only Levy tho innit.
I was talking about Spence, a deal which Levy has been reported as negotiating. It's abundantly clear by now that Levy is happy to let negotiations drag on, even if we miss out on targets. Diaz the latest example - his father was reported as saying Spurs weren't decisive or we may have closed the deal. Adama, Grealish, Ward-Prowse the same.

Spence seems to be our top RWB target, he wants to come, 'boro are happy to sell, it should be an easy deal.

Conte clearly had other choices ahead of Lenglet; so this would be quite low down on the list.

Being prone to dumb errors is not a good sign for a defender.

And Winks is worth £25m to us, that's how it works, that's our valuation.
You’ve missed the point and in some fashion

He isn’t because he has no affect on the performance of the team and therefore no effect on our league position (although many might argue a detrimental effect)

Ergo we’re willing to selling him

The examples earlier, those clubs are going to demand way above market rate because the enormous difference they make to the club

And even your reductive effort of explaining how it works is wrong without considering the previous cases …., if he’s up for sale he’s worth what the market dictates

The ones high on the list aren't looking feasible though. Bastoni's off because he has no interest in coming here, Gvardiol is being completely overvalued and we'd be mental to pay 70m+ for a promising young CB, and Pau Torres also seems to be prohibitively expensive and far from a sure deal.

Seems a stopgap solution to me. If anyone can manage to improve a defender it's Conte, his system helps them a lot, and he's probably the best defensive coach around currently.

What about Guehi from Palace? Surely a better bet than someone who can't get in a mediocre Barcelona team.
Or Ndicka?

Think people are off on Lenglet. He's been poor, but he'd be good at LCB under Conte. Imagine Ben Davies playing cb in a two for Barcelona over the last few years, it would not have been pretty. I'm pretty sure Lenglet would be a marginal upgrade in the position.

Still, don't think it will happen, and would be fairly unhappy with it if we did given the other options out there.

I can see the argument for Lenglet on loan, assuming other options have been exhausted. Low risk, competition for Davies, and frees up resources for other positions. If Lenglet is not up to the task, circle back on LCB next summer.
That's a pretty good argument. Lenglet has supposedly lost his bottle but if he finds it again....

Sometimes players can't get in to one team but can thrive elsewhere. Bentancur & Kulusevski were looking extremely average to poor at Juventus but both have been good signings. I'm not gonna make the same mistake of judging players too much off teams where they've fallen out of favour at.

Guehi would be well overpriced too, for what he's shown. I like parts of Ndicka's game but also thought he looked very clumsy in certain EL games. If Lenglet is legitimately the fourth choice behind Bastoni, Gvardiol & Pau (and it seems that way) then fine.

I'd give Lenglet a chance. He earned a move to Barca, to begin with, so if he can recapture that form, we would end up with a decent deal. A loan with an option would be ideal in this scenario.

Of course, we would prefer Bastoni, but it's not looking likely. If we do end up with Lenglet on loan, hopefully, significant funds will be spent on other positions, so maybe Raphina AND Richarlison aren't entirely off the table.

Not really, more so you were (and still are!) talking about Levy...... So yeh see OG post.

Adama?

.......JWP, ffs?????????????

LOL... Whatever, mate.

For weeks it's been reported the Boro are trying to squeeze us for 20-25m+ whilst being willing to sell for 15m to other poorer clubs....... You honestly think if we walk away Forest will pay 25m???

One tweet today alleging they'll accept 15m and all the flawed memes get rolled out.

.....Tedious.

Conte has exceptionally high standards, and a very clear idea of what a RWB needs to be able to do in his system, so if he wants him, the kind of money being talked about is not a big risk.

Yep, you pay 10-15m on top for HG factor (just like we're demanding with Winks!) and he was the best RB in the championship & is also young, with lots of raw potential. So anything up to 30m wouldn't be completely unreasonable, imo.

20/25 is very fair. We need HG players and we need a fresh option at RWB.
