Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No offence but the amount of times I've seen this kind of statement from people about players and then they turn out to be wrong..

No player is guaranteed to not be a flop at any one club. Even uber talented players, there's so many reasons a transfer can not work out. And even City, PSG etc would baulk at spending 80 million on a young cb.
Then no - one would risk at buying players for higher prices. Because they all can flop lol.

Of course you cannot say 100%, but I’m 90% sure he’ll be world class in years to come. I watched him play for 100 matches. Top rated young CB in the world.

80m for any CB is outrageous unless you see the future and he’s Van Dijk level.

I think new CB can wait if we can’t get someone decent for less than 50m. Lenglet on loan would be fine.

Lucas will stay.

Neither Richarlison or Raphina is worth over 50m.

Spence + Richarlison would wrap up a really good window.

Anyone else remember Alan Halovich(sp?)...... "worth breaking the bank for.... Guaranteed superstar"......... Spurs made the ultimate fuck up grabbing him "even if it cost 50m at 17y/o" in old money.......

Or how about Moussachio...... anyone?

......Turns of out Fazio had the better career afterall.
Halilovic didn’t play cca 20 matches on senior level before he went to Barcelona. It’s not comparable. Gvardiol is most wanted CB in the Europe. He played tons of important matches in Bundesliga, in Europe for Leipzig nad Dinamo and for NT.

Imagine Gvardiol gets a big injury like Hazard early into the season... unlike Real Madrid we wouldn't have the funds to adequately replace him.

We replaced Ndombele/Lo Celso with PEH/Bentancur for £15 and £20m, and got very lucky to have Skipp till Benta came in. In the end we didn't get what we wanted from the big signings, nor from their replacements.

I'd rather take the risk on a big money, high ceiling player than play for the safer option. Being burned on big money signings previously should have no impact on who we sign going forward except for the fact that we do increased due diligence on attitude/personality. We are looking to join the top, top table, not just slightly improve from 4th to 3rd and we need a VVD type addition (in terms of impact), not a slightly better verson of what we already have.

VVD had many years under his belt and was just about to peak, having quietly gone about his business 'beneath the radar'.......

Almost polar opposites.

Go look at who all the biggest transfer fees have been spent on, not a single defender till you get to 14th place and it's Harry Maguire. And the only 'young' defender who a team invested silly money in was De Ligt, and he's not exactly turned out to be worth it. He was meant to be a sure deal too.

Teams risk huge prices on someone like a young Mbappe because the upside is so vast. I'm sure Gvardiol is excellent but if he was 90% sure to become world class then every elite club in the world would be all over him.

Hence why I said "type addition (in terms of impact)" because I knew someone would think I'm comparing Gvardiol to VVD. I'm not, I'm just saying I'd rather go for a player that has a chance of raising the team by a similar amount over a Ben Davies (solid/consistent 7/10 type player).

And Klopp had a fixation on him. He'd wanted him for a good while and didn't want to sign anyone else in that position.

Maybe Conte is the same with Gvardiol but seems to me his version of that would be Bastoni .. who we obviously can't get.

20 matches eh?

Wow. ; P

Look I'm not saying he won't make it but dealing in such absolutes so early isn't wise.

Every elite club is over him or will be. Just because they want to wait because he will cost less next summer, and then we won’t have a fucking chance. That’s why Paratici would consider oayinf that high price now.

The argument remains the same..... For us to blow 80m we'd want more than a mere "chance".

Huh, why? I thought you said his contract ran to 2026? If he stays and is as good as you say he is, he's almost guaranteed to be brilliant again, and still have 3 years left on his deal. I highly doubt his price will drop that much.

And they may want to wait for said price to drop, but if we bid for him and they all think he's this guaranteed world class superstar, then a team like Madrid would hijack it. Teams don't get a free run at players top clubs consider sure things.

Well I'm not going to put an exact percentage on it as I'm not a top-level football scout or coach, that's for those at the club to decide. But after years of fans moaning about us not pushing to the next level let's just keep playing safe and barely upgrading on what we already have.

I actually agree with you that I'd rather sign a few players with a genuine chance to come in and transform us than a bunch who might. I'm not at all put off by the Ndombele transfer really, it happens in football, it doesn't mean you give up on big investments.

It's just this particular deal with a player at this stage in his development that would be questionable, imo. If there is a VVD/Alisson type transfer out there ready for us, the club should definitely go for it.

might be our only chance to get this soort of player yes slightly overpriced but it wouldnt feel great seeing him play well for a liverpool or city down the line either

and wonder what could of been
