Personally don't think any specific league is vital for Gil. At 21, think it's most important he's playing every week on a decent side and learns how to regularly contribute goals, assists and effect games regularly. If you plan to use him in the coming years prescribe him English lessons and and a weight-gain programme.

Tottenham is unleashed on the market, Antonio Conte's team wants to try to interrupt the City-Liverpool hegemony and to do so the DS Paratici has decided to give Conte a truly competitive team. From Spain come rumors about a possible interest by the London club for Pau Torres del Villareal. After Lenglet, who seems to be one step away, now it is the Spaniard’s turn and according to AS reported, the imminent arrival of the Frenchman would not rule out Torres’s arrival.

Because when people criticize him they aren't talking about whether he's good on the ball or not. They're criticizing the fact he gave more penalties away than any other Barcelona player in 20/21, or his clumsy own goals, or the losses of concentration which enabled a player to peel off him and score. Again, you can't judge a CB by stats. He may win most of his tackles, aerial duels & progress the ball well but if he gives away goals then it's a killer.

This isn't just a fan opinion thing, he's been dropped by Barcelona despite them not having particularly prodigious center backs. This is a chance for him to rescue his career & we've given it to him because of a lack of available LCB's on the market. I think there's a high chance of him being a success within this system if he can clear his head. Obviously at Barca at some point he suffered a loss of confidence and hasn't mentally recovered.
On the one hand you do want him to revive his career under Conte and play at a very high level. But then the tough question is whether we take up the purchase option. Because if he reverts to his Barca form after Conte leaves, then we'll be stuck with a mediocre player making a shitload of coin. So probably better to use him as a stop gap and buy the LCB we really want. Or if we do buy him, the moment Conte leaves sell him and make a profit, unless the next manager that comes in plays a similar style to Conte.

I think the reality is that we should prepare for our medium term future to be with 5 at the back, and that probably entails targeting a manager who plays that system after Conte. Inter did the same thing (with Inzaghi now) because unless you're willing to do a really big overhaul after he leaves, you're gonna be stuck with lots of 3-4-3/3-5-2 suitable players.

If Lenglet comes in & really impresses, the club will purchase him I'm sure.

Modric is little, but he became physically stronger over time.

He also learnt how to protect himself & the ball in part because he was never the biggest or strongest player on the field.

Gil and Kulu both have footballing intelligence, like Luka and Eriksen.

Players can train to get stronger & fitter. But footballing intelligence is much harder to coach.
Good point

It's like they are run by some of the clueless dickheads who post here.

If Torres and Lenglet are coming we’d wanna work on shifting a few out….

Regulion
Sanchez
Rodon
Winks
Bergwijn
Lo celso
Ndombele
Gil (loan)
Emerson/Doherty?

Lot of work to do

I mean come on, that would be pretty immense on all fronts and its more than realistic bar a change here and there potentially.

The same Real fans who hated and laughed at Modric and Bale all those years ago?

I think he's a cracking player and not unlike Kulu and Bentancour will recapture his previous under Conte.

His time at Barca (i think) came under three different managers hardly conducive to a happy period for any player?

End of the day Conte and Paratici are no mugs at who they want and what they can do with a player to improve them.

Eh Gil just needs to play. Staying in Spain maximizes his value if we want to sell. He’s still very young. If we want to keep him in the future he can adjust to PL with us or someone else at that time. I’d certainly prefer him to play in top level of Spain vs in the Championship.
