Attacking midfielders players I can’t help feel we should have gone for either ericksen on a free or tielamans approx £30M. Proven PL players who would hit the ground running and add good input from midfield areas. Then we could either spend bigger money on other areas or keep our powder dry until next season.
We play with two, solid midfielders - based on last season there’s no place for an attacking midfielder

I don’t think Conte wants to play an attacking midfielder. In his tactical ideal Kane drops back to be that creative centre, or the wingbacks have the responsibility, or Son and Kulu do their thing. Gone is the day where everything comes through one playmaker like Xavi or Eriksen.

Conte did say this though:

I'm alright with the no buy option. It's clear our first two choices were Bastoni and Gvardiol, and if they aren't available this summer then getting in a stop gap for now is smart business.

Barca may not have wanted to commit to an option. If he turns out to be amazing, then we know Barca are desperate to sell at the moment so we'd likely get a deal sorted either way.

Time to move onto Spence and then look at a midfielder and potentially another attack.

I am not saying Conte can polish everyone. But then, even our Winks had a decent end to the season under Conte.

Tanganga is not a "liability" if rotated in against weaker sides and viewed as he ought to be- a rare young HG talent with a lot of upside. Being as desperate as we are for HG players of quality, we should be doing almost everything we can to keep and improve them.

I think we can all agree he can use some better handling than he has gotten the past couple of seasons. The injuries have been unfortunate but there's no reason to think that can't improve under Conte.

He had the ability to put both Sterling and Grelish in his pocket in 1 game. And he may still flourish under Conte.
he may not make it, but giving up on the kid at this stage of his career, is in my mind is absolute bollocks.

He had a good game against City. I had a great view of his work in that first half particularly. But it doesn't change the fact there were more bad games and even more games where he was injured. That's not a player you can rely on.

yea i thought he was good that game. them ratings are usually done by some clueless mushroom, stopped paying attention to them years ago. the sort of mushroom that gives modric a 6 or 7 most games cos it goes completely over their head what hes actually doing.

i think lenglet could be a good signing, hes going to be protected by the system conte plays. he cant be any worse than dier or davies can he?

That same website had him down as specifically the worst player on the pitch in the game at the Camp Nou. They did caveat it with the fact it was a changed sided, but the comments that he struggled when under seige worry me. I remember we bossed the game and 1-1 flattered them tbh. Don't really remember him particularly but I don't pay much attention to opposition during games.

Eriksen apparently demanded around £10m as a signing-on fee. That's not free. Plus a hefty salary. And Spurs did not contact him again after their initial and only contact, which means he was not that high on Conte's "wanted list".
Tielemans is more of a CM who's neither a CAM nor fit to play in a MF-2 formation.

Why? The club have made a decision thats best for us. If we werent happy, we would either continue to push for our preferred conditions or backed out.

Lets see what comes out in the wash👍👍

That is just not true.
If we weren't happy we would ship him back to Barca with or without buy OPTION. I am not talking about OBLIGATION.

But now in scenario where he will be very good for us, Barca will have all the leverage and can ask for 30 mil from us if they decide so.

Right now we carry the whole risk, Barca carries whole benefit.

100% this plus Tielamans is way too lazy for Conte. He would want somebody that puts in a shift.

Eriksen used to cover the distance under Poch and did win over Conte at Inter but I don't think it is a priority in our system with the front 3 we have.

Ali Gold alluding to the idea that the £150m we took out via ENIC earlier this summer was done so to spend this summer.

Unless the Romero permanent deal is taking up a part of this I can't see where we will be using the rest.

£75m-£80m spent.... we'll still have some big business to come.

I have a feeling we will spend it and then use money from sales in January.

The club has the facility to do another £150m share issue within the next 5 years so we will have a similar window again at some point.

I wonder what people’s views would be if a proportion of this summer’s £150m is used for Kane and Conte’s new contracts? It’s entirely possible/probable that is the case.

If Lenglet does play well for Spurs, then of course Spurs will benefit. How can they not benefit from that? According to "reports" Conte himself called Lenglet to convince him so it's obvious that Spurs have decided it's still worth it.

Fab Fridays should be about incomings, not outgoings :contehmm:

One day I'll browse this forum and find an entire day where you've not fucking moaned.

But clearly it is not this day.

We've had plenty of incomings already, and there'll be a couple more.

This isn't fucking football manager so if thats what you're after, get your ass off this forum, back to your basement, and go spend the day playing FM whilst sitting in your soiled pants and eating a bumper sized pack of cheetos! Fuck sake man.

"Fab Fridays" can be about both...it's just as important (if not more so) we clear out the deadwood now, as it is to bring in more players.
