Transfers Summer 2022 Transfer Thread.

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If we sold Tanganga and Winks then we would only have 4 players left for the 4 club grown slots in Skipp, Kane, Austin and Whiteman and we would probably loan out/sell one of the keepers so we would lose a slot in Europe assuming we don't resign somebody club grown like KWP. Couldn't just bring in any HG for a club trained slot
No, that's not right.

Read the OP of the thread I linked, if it's confusing let me know and I can try and rephrase it.

Getting rid of KWP was always a strange one for me, him as a HG backup ahead of Signing Emerson or Doherty just would seem to make too much sense for us as a club.

Levy is a genius really. Get linked with Lenglet. 90% of us are like 'who the fuck is that'. The transfer drags on sooooooo long that by the end of it we are all desperate for him to be announced.

Not going to lie, at first I thought they meant Tommy Langley.

i would be disappointed if lenglet is the only cb we get
I kind of agree but it’s a bit of a tough decision. Romero is going to play almost every time he’s available. Dier and Davies could use some competition but neither were poor last year. So Sanchez can cover Diers or Romero’s spot and he’s not great but not a terrible player no matter what the board says.

Davies clearly needs cover. Could we find a left footed CB that could cover both his and Diers position? That would be ideal but it doesn’t seem like Torres or lenglet is good enough defensively for that. So if we bring in someone like Bremer in addition, is he just going to sit on the bench? Maybe challenge Dier? 6 CBs just seems like a lot, but obviously if there’s a long term injury to any of them, it could be vital. Tough choice.

Ali Gold alluding to the idea that the £150m we took out via ENIC earlier this summer was done so to spend this summer.

Unless the Romero permanent deal is taking up a part of this I can't see where we will be using the rest.

£75m-£80m spent.... we'll still have some big business to come.
I would assume the Romero deal is part of this. If he gets purchased this summer, it’ll come from this summers budget.

I remember Dembele absolutely mugging him off for a whole game. It was like he was teasing him.

I still fucking love this pic.

Typically yes, I agree. But lenglet is 27… he’s running out of time to improve defensively. However, he could be one of those that is much better in a back 3 than a back 4 (like Davies).

Davies is twenty nine and Conte improved him immeasurably, age is really a number but application and character cannot be trained into any athlete.

Lenglet went to a team that went through three managers, different tactics and systems, not easy for any player to improve under or indeed maintain form.

Finally, Conte and Paratici are no mugs, and obviously feel that they can return Lenglet to his best form.

That is just not true.
If we weren't happy we would ship him back to Barca with or without buy OPTION. I am not talking about OBLIGATION.

But now in scenario where he will be very good for us, Barca will have all the leverage and can ask for 30 mil from us if they decide so.

Right now we carry the whole risk, Barca carries whole benefit.
We don’t carry risk with a cheap loan. If he’s good for us and we can’t sign him because he’s too expensive, we still got 1 good year from him for cheap.

Clearly people don’t know what risk is.

Hope this helps, check OP:

Short answer is yes but we need to bring in a HG to replace him for full squad
Do we need a 25 man squad. 3 keepers and 2 for every position is 23. We can have 24 with 7 HG. Not all teams have a full over 21 squad. We can supplement with under 21 .
Boro might just get a kick up the backside anytime soon when we walk away.

Possibly.

But disappointing purchase in that he's older than Etete, Parrott and White, all of whom have looked better in L1 than Clarke at L1 Sunderland.
No doubt a disappointing purchase.

But I think that's a little bit harsh on Clarke, I've been kinda impressed with him most times I've seen him(to a point, understanding his limitations).

Harvey White has a lovely left boot and he's a smart player, but I doubt he ever has the mobility for top level football, Clarke has been the more impressive of the two for me, I think he's a good buy for Sunderland.

Davies didn’t change as a player, he’s just now playing a position that fits his strengths. He always had technical ability but was too slow for a left back but a solid defender. Now his position favors a solid defender with technical ability.

If we went back to our poch formation and tried to play Davies at LB, he’d probably be the same player he was then.

We are unlikely to want to name Whiteman in the squad, both because he's out on loan until November but also with Lloris, Forster and Austin in the squad he'd be our 4th GK, so its likely we'd end up with naming 3 Club trained players named.

In the 'trained by other clubs affiliated to the FA' category we have Sessegnon and Forster, but I'm pretty sure we will either sign Spence or another HG player to bring us to 3 players.

So adding the maximum 17 overseas trained players its likely we will end with 23 players in the squad - two short of the maximum 25 man squad.

I'm hoping and expecting we loan out our best development squad players to gain experience, but assume there will be one or two left to go onto the List B (u21) players to increase that 23 man squad

Agree with you- in reality we need a 23 man squad.

We are okay in terms of HG atm, the issue would be if we tried to bring in more non-HG players.
Bringing in at least one HG player in this window is important, be it Spence or an English AM.

Eriksen apparently demanded around £10m as a signing-on fee. That's not free. Plus a hefty salary. And Spurs did not contact him again after their initial and only contact, which means he was not that high on Conte's "wanted list".
Tielemans is more of a CM who's neither a CAM nor fit to play in a MF-2 formation.

The bottom line with Eriksen either at United or if he came to Spurs is would he help bring either club closer to City, Scouse or Chelsea and in my humble opinion the answer is no.

I don't even think he will start regularly for United (or us) which is mystifying considering that they need starting eleven players now and not squad players.

For Levy to have spent the suggested cost on Eriksen would be a dereliction of duties, when we have more important positions to fill.
