In attackers who do we have.

Zaniolo - seems the one Conte wants but Jose blocked it apparently, very physical hard runner.

Harvey Barnes - good goal scorer but for me other parts of his game could be better

Zaha - very good player with 1 year left but doubt even then Palace will sell

Maddison - probably too expensive but quality all round player who can play multiple positions, (wide & AM)

Paqueta - a risk coming from the French league but looks very talented

Gordon - his general play running, tackling, dribbling, aggression is really really good but needs better G/A numbers. Perhaps the player on this list with the highest potential but £50m for potential even if it’s very high potential seems steep.

Jose Mourinho has revealed that while he would love rumoured Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo to remain at AS Roma, the decision is down to the club’s hierarchy.

Zaniolo was linked with a move to Spurs earlier this summer (Corriere dello Sport) but the speculation has died down recently, with The Evening Standard reporting a couple of weeks ago that Roma had cooled their interest in selling the 23-year-old.

CalcioMercato reported last week that Antonio Conte continues to ‘insist’ that Tottenham sign the winger but the report asserted the Italy international is now closer to signing a contract extension at the Stadio Olimpico than he has been for a while.

Zaniolo started for the Giallarossi in their Serie A season-opener at Salernitana last Sunday and Mourinho spoke in glowing terms of the winger’s display, describing it as ‘extraordinary’ (Roma’s official YouTube channel).

The former Spurs boss has now praised Zaniolo for the effort he is putting in during training and admitted that he is an important player for Roma.

Mourinho said (via The Daily Express): “Zaniolo looks very sharp and physically agile, as it’s not easy for a player like him to maintain that intensity for 90 minutes. He deserves the credit for training hard and having the right motivation.

“If he remains or not, that’s a question for the director, not for me. If you ask me, I’d love him to remain, obviously. He is an important player for us, a key piece of the puzzle to bring together all the characteristics of our players.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Tottenham would have been able to get a deal for Zaniolo over the line this summer if Mourinho had not intervened to stop the deal.

The 23-year-old looks likely to now remain at Roma this summer but Spurs might continue to keep an eye on his situation. If Zaniolo does not sign a new deal within the next few months, Paratici might go back in for him in January.

60 million.
We can afford that.

Forget Zaha, been linked to us since 2012

Harvey Barnes would be my pick.

Home grown, very talented! Much much better than Gordon imo

Possibly I think it’s more the style though. Maddison for me is the most talented player on that list I did but Conte wanted Zaniolo more assumably because he is a much more physical player. Gordon is very fast and very strong so may fit Conte’s profile more than Barnes.

Perhaps I am reading it wrong but the players we have signed have all been physically powerful and quick. Conte clearly to me at least has a profile so based on that I wouldn’t be surprised to see us chasing the below two or similar types.

Zaha (only 1 year left on deal)
Milenkovic-Savic

Add that to the set piece coach and the height advantage we also seem to want to build. In short we look like we are building a team of bullies or trying to.

Biggest thing for me would be getting somebody who suits the RW role. Rich covers Kane and Son, and I think you need the RW role to be somebody with more feel for the ball and chance creation than Rich/Son. Malinovskyi links make sense, Zaniolo too. Paqueta and maybe Gordon. Olise, but probably unrealistic this year.
Neto would be good in a team with such natural goalscorers.

Don't think Barnes, Zaha are the right fit.

In January I now think Kulusevski was a fantastic buy, although at the time I assumed he'd need a bit of adjustment time to see what he could do, whereas I know a few wrote him off after his first substitute appearance - tough audience.

This summer I'd go for another unheralded acquisition who seems to have been ignored by many - Gianni Vio brought in to improve our set pieces. A goal from a set piece against Chelsea and Wolves suggests he'll be very influential this season - maybe as much or more than any player we bring in.

I think we need one more player of attacking intent if we accept central midfield is settled for this season.

Someone who can unpick the door is my preference.

Think something will happen. No idea what or who.

Zaha always does this.

Has a couple of good games and everyone thinks he's the bollocks. Then drifts off into obscurity.

He is *the* definition of a YouTube clips player. Loads of my family and friends are Palace. They are bored of the fella.

He's scored 13 in something like 14 games. I would usually agree but he has sustained this level for a good period of time now. I suspect it is because he is playing in a more attacking team now than under Hodgson.

Regardless, he plays off the left and is best there. We need another off of the right hand side. Haha isn't that.
