Yes but ASM playing in a harder league in a worse league.
ASM's dribbling is also far superior, it has the X-factor.

Anyway this argument is moot as I agree we do not need a LW, so ASM not worth it. Right now I'm of the opinion we should keep Gil.

Its clear Conte prefers to sign another RW as cover for Kulusevski if he can - otherwise there would be no rumours of a loan to Valencia for Gil.

I like Gil when I have seen him playing but he's shown very limited productivity (goals/assists) to cover Kulusevski) which is why another RW/RM is being sought

You're just glossing over the bits you don't want to acknowledge. You dismissed RM on the basis that he doesn't start much; yet:

41 APPs / 28 starts is not a player on the fringes...... Nor does it compare unfavorably to ASM.

ASM's dribbling is also far superior,

Lloris is a better keeper...... Point being?

it has the X-factor.

FFS..... This convo only started cos you said he was the best player we've been linked to. :contefacepalm2:

I also understand Malinovski is very much a set piece guy .. dunno how much that has translated in to g/a but if he's on all of them then it makes sense he'd outproduce ASM. I'd be more interested in seeing how high he ranks on 'big chances created/xA' from open play.
Malinovski is very much a player who scores goals from outside the box, the set pieces are great but not only a smaller % of goals scored

Feels like nothing will happen until the last 3-4 days of the market where we’ll try to be opportunistic.

Clearing out the unwanteds and obvious loans now so we can be prepared for the final mad dash.

Aggrevwith most of what you say but if we play perisic at rwb then that means we have to play sess at LWB. His not proved it yet that he be successful in that role. I’d rather keep perisic at LWB and play spence at rwb. Surely he is good enough to play v forest this weekend? After all he played with most of them in the champo.
Would love to see Spence this weekend. I can't see Conte starting him, but hopefully he gets 25-30 minutes later on.

Transfers take quite a few days to set up with legals and financials

Lots of deals will be set up now or in next few days, of which the trigger will be pulled on only a few towards the end of the window. Triggers pulled only if each transfer (in or out) benefits Spurs squad with each 'out' matched with a better 'in' transfer.

Same with most clubs.

In Serie A he started 19 games and came off the bench 11 times.

He's been playing (and scoring) in CL & EL too.... A level that Newcastle can still only aspire to.

I wouldn't class that as a regular starter.

Nor did i.... I'm not dismissing him on the basis of being a starter or not though; so I've no motivation to over-state his starts.......

Funny how once again "It's a squad game" only applies in certain contexts these days.....

41 apps & 28 starts is a legit season.

Ignore the FM shit, but the actual stats sound promising. Lots of chances created from open play, used to a 5 at the back system & offers a goal threat from outside the box. Maybe has fallen out of favour a bit at Atalanta but we've seen how Conte can utilise players who are out of favour elsewhere, so not too worried about that anymore.

Seems like it would be interesting.

ASM is Newcastle's best player, your appearance stats are slightly misleading as Atalanta were in Europe so had more games in their season.

We don't need a guaranteed RW starter, much happier with someone who will come off bench to rotate or change the game - only guaranteed start if Kulusevski injured.

Much better to have an experienced player in that role rather than a youngster who needs game time to develop

His Serie A stats in 20/21 were 8G 12A, but last season dipped to 6G 4A.

Not to be a pessimist, but if a player gets less productive in their late 20s that could be a sign of decline.
Different from a youngster like Kulu, you'd expect younger players to be up and down.

Agreed with that

My only major negative on him is age - similar age to Kane, Son and Moura so he's a 'stop gap'.

But prefer a good stop gap to a less good option !

It could be. Or it could be a sign of a team decline or system change & the player needs a change. At the kind of price we'd pay it seems worth a go, no? I've just seen in 20/21 he had more key passes per 90 than any other player in Europe's top 5 leagues. That wasn't long ago.

He has a goal & an assist in 2 games so far this season. One season - which still wasn't awful - isn't indicative of a decline, yet. I'd say there's potential for downside for sure but loads of upside & we should be pretty excited if it happens.

Last season less playing time hence part of reason for drop - hence manager/player tension. Better for all if player moves on (as have a few players at Atlanta having disagreements with manager - it happens)

As Airfixx Airfixx says 29 isn't particularly old in modern football, and a technically gifted midfielder doesn't need to be physically outstanding. He actually could replicate how Conte utilised Fabregas at Chelsea really well.

Midfielder with a bit of experience who won't start every game but can come on in tight matches & offer a set piece threat, a goal threat from in/around the box & can pick out passes. Probably gets starts in some games where we're big favourites, too.

Internet full of stories that Spurs and player have agreed a deal for Gil to Valencia on loan

Only thing outstanding imo is to complete the AM coming to Spurs - so expect firm news on tyhe player in this week ?

My point is slightly more subtle - Moura has 2 more years on contract and just aged 30, but I think might leave next summer. But Kane and Son and (now) Malinovskyi would be of a similar age so need replacing over a similar period

For that reason I would prefer a younger player - but if Malinovskyi is the best option, I'd go with him and sort out things in the next couple of years !
