My point is slightly more subtle - Moura has 2 more years on contract and just aged 30, but I think might leave next summer. But Kane and Son and (now) Malinovskyi would be of a similar age so need replacing over a similar period

For that reason I would prefer a younger player - but if Malinovskyi is the best option, I'd go with him and sort out things in the next couple of years !

That's true, for this season I think the current setup will do but would be nice to see some younger faces next season. Richarlison was a nice addition in that respect as at 25 he's going to be entering his supposed prime years.

Maddison at 25 would also fit that bill, but at 60 million he'd be a much pricier version of Malinovski and at that point you're overpaying for a role which is useful but not part of the 'beating heart' of a Conte setup, necessarily.

It could be. Or it could be a sign of a team decline or system change & the player needs a change. At the kind of price we'd pay it seems worth a go, no? I've just seen in 20/21 he had more key passes per 90 than any other player in Europe's top 5 leagues. That wasn't long ago.

He has a goal & an assist in 2 games so far this season. One season - which still wasn't awful - isn't indicative of a decline, yet. I'd say there's potential for downside for sure but loads of upside & we should be pretty excited if it happens.
Fair points- you’ve changed my mind on him.

Key question now becomes if Conte believes he can convert him to a RW from CAM.
I don’t think price or wages will be an obstacle.

Aggrevwith most of what you say but if we play perisic at rwb then that means we have to play sess at LWB. His not proved it yet that he be successful in that role. I’d rather keep perisic at LWB and play spence at rwb. Surely he is good enough to play v forest this weekend? After all he played with most of them in the champo.
Hate to do it but your he’s and your his are driving me mad
Add to that your god / good and a clear antipathy for paragraphs it’s all fucking hard work mate

Its clear Conte prefers to sign another RW as cover for Kulusevski if he can - otherwise there would be no rumours of a loan to Valencia for Gil.

I like Gil when I have seen him playing but he's shown very limited productivity (goals/assists) to cover Kulusevski) which is why another RW/RM is being sought
Can’t moura do that ? And if the answer is deemed to be no then we should have sold him no matter how much he wants to run his contract down snd semi retire

We currently got 5 forwards for 3 places is that not sufficient?

Why have we got to go out and buy some old dog to take up a foreign slot and burn wages ?

I don’t know what you were watching today but at no point did I think that Traore would solve or improve anything on our right wing.

He’s a worse crosser than Emerson. And I don’t believe in this mystic ability where he “pulls” defenders towards him because he’s so imposing, in turn creating space elsewhere on the pitch. Which mind you did not happen today.

For all his size we even saw Sess outmuscle him once or twice.
Traore would be much better than Royal on the attack. Royal is a squad player at best. The right wing would improve.

Seems strange we want another wide forward when the team is crying out for a creative midfielder.
The team looks much of a muchness with the same type of players in midfield making everything look laboured but Conte is in charge so.

Kane, Kulu, Son are out 'best 3'. Rich and Moura can play in all 3 positions.

If we bring in another attacking player; it will someone who can provide something extra as an impact sub.

I still think if we could get Adama Traore in the 10-15m range it would be great business. Still young and an absolute nightmare for defences. Useless end product - but I'm sure our coaches could work on that.

It was interesting to see when he came on against us that we had 3 players charge at him each time he got the ball.

Moura is done, shot, finished, write any word you want but baring injury, suspension, Covid, an earthquake of an invasion from a foreign country he will never start for us ever again.

That is the case and so he needs replacing.

One game worth a shit he turned up. One.

My only point was that Adama is an inferior player and wouldn’t be a solution to your complaints.

I never said I wanted him to be a starter... I said the opposite
.Flawed certainly, and I wouldn't want him starting, but just don't think he deserves the amount of stick he gets here.

Not sure what he wants as session very rarely beats a man.
Conte wants fullbacks that are physically strong and powerful. And it is pretty obvious that Ryan has put on mass and it shows in how he plays now.

A Conte wingback doesn't need to beat his man through pure pace, it is just as fine if he outmuscles or holds off his man.

Reguilon is too small for the wingback role in a Conte system.

What seems very clear is that Conte wants one more player at least and in an attacking sense.

The format and style we play in maybe cannot accommodate a central midfielder like Maddison. Too demanding in a 2.

So it's possibly just a matter of finding a player for the 3 up top role.

Theoretically we do have 4 into 2 for central midfield. A bit light for me but...

We definitely need one more up top though,, good as we are in that area.

Traore would be much better than Royal on the attack. Royal is a squad player at best. The right wing would improve.
We’re going to have to agree to disagree here.

While Royals attacking efforts may leave a lot to be desired, his defensive strengths alone make him a better player than Traore.
If Traore was the equivalent of Perisic but without any ability to defend I could see some merit but the guy does nothing better than Royal. He’s worse offensively and defensively.

Thankfully the Dan James rumours sound nothing more than just that after reading the article. We are no way near bidding for him.

Does feel like it’s the quiet before the storm a bit. Tanganga and Gil close must mean two in. Hopefully of better quality or more experience. It’s gonna be interesting to see who we go for. Lots of smoke and mirrors in the build up I suspect like James.

There should be a post fixed at the top of every page of this thread

There is no place for an "attacking" or "creative" midfielder in this system.

Just repeat it over and over. A player like Maddison, who plays a key role at Leicester and wants to go to the world cup, isn't gonna come and sit on our bench to get 10 minutes here and there when either the 343 isn't working or we 4-0 up and can give players minutes.
