Are you seriously asking why context matter while talking about facts? For real?
I am asking why the amount of games he's started in the top flight matters in this situation? He's 29 years old, which means he provides us experience of top flight and Champions League football. He wouldn't be brought in to be a starter because we don't start with an attacking midfielder. And he's cheaper than anyone else who has provided the same level of quality. Let's be precise, at Atalanta since he's signed for them, in all competitions. His stats stand at:
69 starts of a possible 131.
30 goals
27 assists
1) Having 46 goal involvements IS so much easier if you play for a team where attacking players don't have to work for defensive purposes at all. Also it is much easier to have your hand in goals if your team scores 2.6 goals per game compared to more modest numbers. It means that he would not be replicating these numbers in any other teams.
Over the last 3 seasons (and inc the 2 games this season), Atalanta have played:
153 games
Scored 321 goals
That's actually an average of 2.09 goals a game.
Here's our record under Conte
39 games played
79 goals scored
Which comes to about 2.02 goals a game.
So not much difference then. Malinovskyi will be going from a team where he's not a guaranteed starter that works ridiculously hard and scores lots of goals to a team that.... works hard and scores lots of goals, whilst not being a guaranteed starter.
Why couldn't he replicate the same?
2) Phrasing your fact in form of "last 54 starts" sounds like there have been starts before that. While I pointed out that there isn't. His track record in top league is rather short. And this too matters - more data and information you have, more representative it is. And Malinovski, despite his age, is not very experienced in top levels of European football.
That's on however you want to read it.
He's 29 years old. A full international with nearly 50 caps for his country. . Has started Champions League games, trusted to start
and score in an Italian Cup final, made over 100 appearances in Serie A.
I am sure he'll be fine playing in the Premier League if it came to it. A lot worse players have done well for themselves.
Hope that cleared up some stuff.
For the record - I would be okay signing him if that is what Conte and Paratici decide. But Malinovski specifically would not be my firs choice. I do not think he would be enough of an upgrade on Moura.
Plus as I mentioned in the other post - his age and contract he expects will mean that money we put on purchase + salaries will be almost 100% cost cause he would have next to no value as an asset after contract.
Don't get me wrong, Malinovskyi wouldn't be my first choice either. But for a team that specifically don't play with an attacking midfielder but is potentially looking at one who's got experience, happy to be on the bench but come on and potentially start games here and there whilst producing the goods as proven at his previous club, then I'd be over the moon with signing him.
I doubt we'd find anyone better than him for the same price (or cheaper) for what he would end up bringing to the team. You'd have to move upwards of £30,000,000 to find someone who could probably provide the same output he has done from one of the top 5 leagues, whilst also being happy with the demands of Conte as well as happy at being a bit part player behind Son, Kane and Kulusrvski.
