I don't understand why anyone's rating the window now.

It's not over

The new signings haven't seen much action yet

We're not going to know how to rate it till later in the season

Last January we had signed what looked like a couple of Juve rejects, in truth they were probably the catalyst to getting top 4. How would that window not be an 8/9 out of 10 for effectiveness? What would you have rated it at the time?

Let's see where we are come the point we're playing 2 games a week, then we'll see how good this squad are.

What the fuck is wrong with you ?!?!
Do you not know the rules here. Coming in with your logic, common sense and long-term view. Wrong place, wanker :D !!

Rules here are simple -
- no signing today = Levy is a fucking cheap cunt
- no full starting XI purchased that should be starters = ENIC is fucking killing this club
- all the issues with the squad will not get solved within 1 window = it is a fucking disaster and could not be rated over 5/10
- all summer signings do not start first 10 games in a row = we have just brought cheap options

Please learn those basics and reconsider your approach, you'll get away without foul vote for this time, but next time there will be no more mercy :D !!

Agree, more than one thing can be true at the same time of course.

We have had, hands down, the best transfer window pretty much in memory. Not only great players, but in positions we really need. Who knew it was so simple.

This window will get us to the top table. But if we want to establish ourselves as regulars at the top we need more. It might be novel for us, but City signing Haaland, Liverpool Nunez, and Chavs Sterling and Koulibaly is just normal business. I don’t want to be an outside contender I want us to be genuine challengers.

I’m just burned somewhat by the Poch era of so close yet so far. Can almost guarantee the coach we get after Conte won’t be an upgrade, so we need to strike whilst the iron is hot innit

Agree.

But I looked through the squad Conte inherited player by player and quickly realised that with the best luck in the world the number of players that needed adding and moving on was a lot more than could be done in one transfer window.

Which is why I'm pleased to see more recruitment guys join - it means several transfer windows with players being upgraded. And with that realisation, the urge for 'one more big (expensive) player coming in this transfer window' went away as it was clear that by itself that 'one more big player' wouldn't solve most of the problems in the squad.

So better to wait for another window when a different group of players will become available, rather than choose to spend big money on a player that isn't really right for the squad.

And the sounds from Conte is he quite likes the novelty of building up a squad over a couple of windows rather than just a short stay at a club. So lets enjoy the ride !

Only thing I'd add is that Paratici has been adding a lot of recruitment guys over the last couple of months - and the only reason they would come is if he's intending to recruit/upgrade players for the next couple of years.

So whilst I'd certainly like one or two more good players to join in places we need, whether or not they come this summer it wouldn't surprise me if we saw one or two players being considered in the January winter (likely to be longer and earlier due to World Cup ? ) before another 4-6 players joining next summer.
This is fine and having a good long term strategy is fine, but has this not been our supposed strategy for almost the entirety of ENICs ownership?

We’ve gone out and gotten a manager in Conte, a top 5 manager in the world. Surely we have brought him in to try and win a league title? Surely every Spurs fan can agree on that? Can any Spurs fan really see Conte here in 5 years time? Even 3 years? I really cannot see why he would stay at Spurs for a long term project when he is at the peak of his powers.

With that in mind, it is surely feasible to question why the club hasn’t really pushed the boat out and gone for the best players available? Replaced players in the starting 11 that have been playing for us for nearly a decade and could easily be upgraded on?

We were told that Spurs were going to “change their policy” and really back Conte by Club mouth pieces like Gold and Kilpatrick et al. But in reality, as much as so many Spurs fans will refuse to admit it, this window echoes the Mourinho Bale Back window almost to a tee.

He’s already playing in England for an inferior club.
It’s not the same as signing Bastoni or Gvardiol.

And Chelsea are going to pay more than double his value. Who else fits that profile?
You want us to pay 50M+ for Gordon. 30M+ for Zaha or just go out and get Traore?
You're not getting it mate. Take Bastoni Fofana for instance

It would be quite easy to sign him.

1. Offer  Milan Leicester £250m payable in cash in full.

2. Offer  Bastoni Fofana £500k p/w.

3. Give him a £50m signing on bonus, paid up front.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
After all, we are 6th "richest" club in the world.

With regards to Malinovskyi, I wonder if Conte's "previous" with Atalanta may have a bearing on the matter. It shouldn't, but who knows?

On 21 September 2009, Conte replaced Angelo Gregucci as manager of Atalanta. Despite a good start at the helm of the Orobici, the club found itself struggling by November, leading to protests from local supporters and friction between Conte and the club's ultra supporters.

On 6 January 2010, Conte was repeatedly confronted by Atalanta fans during a home game against Napoli which ended in a 0–2 defeat for the Nerazzurri. The match ended with Conte receiving police protection to avoid an altercation with the Atalanta ultras. The next day, Conte tendered his resignation to the club, leaving them in 19th place.

At the moment I would give the window a B

We have got some serious ready made talent - Bissouma, Richarlison and Perisic

Brought talent young players - Spence and Destiny

Got in decent back up - Lenglet & Forster

Got rid of most of the so called ‘deadwood’ or close to moving them all on.

For an A* we need a top draw CB and another attacker I feel particularly given rivals business. B is good don’t get me wrong but I don’t think Conte wants anything less than an A* and hopefully we will get that done.

Good - you understand a long term strategy is in place

By itself it doesn't mean success - some years ago the Board decided to replace Jol with the (apparently) more successful Ramos from Seville and I'd suggest most fans at the time wre happy with that - whilst I thought Jol deserved another season on the basis of having got 5th place twice (then our best position for circa 20 years) including Lasagnegate that could have got us 4th.

I think everyone now agrees it was a wrong turn - although out of the failure of hiring lRamos we recruited Redknapp (a manager Levy would probably have never considered) and out of that appointment we got our first CL season and a much better squad than Jol had ever had.

So success is not linear, and neither has every decision Levy made been right (probably true that 50% of his manager appointments have not worked for example), but that's true of most people . However when enic/Levy took over in about 2000 Spurs had not been successful for over a decade, our squad was very poor, our stadium not fit for a top team and our training ground - if you ever went there the converted portacabins/nissan huts were probably designed to put any players off joining !

So we are a lot better off now in every sense than when enic bought.

Will Conte stay for 3 years - its perfectly possible as he seems fairly happy right now. Will he stay for 5 or 10 years - he never has anywhere else and probably we should doubt it.

But if we bring in a couple of better players in January transfer window and maybe another 4- 6 next summer the squad will have gone up another notch or two - Paratici has clearly shown he can buy good players so there is no reason to doubt that.

And its a nonsense strategy to blow all the money in one transfer window when its clear we need a couple of windows to bring in the number of players we need.

So atm, I'm pleased with the direction of progress - its not been linear with downs as well as ups but overall the direction of travel over 10 or 20 years has been up......... unlike clubs who used to be head to head rivals a decade or so ago such as Villa or Everton.

I think the CB the club wants won't happen until next summer now especially as with around 5 days to go nobody is going to let a good player go.
If that is the case probably tanganga doesn't leave seeing as rodon went and we play with 3 CBSs we would need six in total as cover

I was watching one of Alisdair Gold's podcasts, he says that we won't move on Gil or Tanganga unless we find replacements.
