What?!! You really think this transfer window is like the Mourinho one and that the club hasn't backed Conte? Even after we did most of our transfers early, strengthened a number of positions that needed strengthening, and Conte indicated he's happy with the club's business? I mean, you seriously think that???

Question Mark What GIF by MOODMAN
Yes I do actually.

Very similar low budget, safe, consolidation transfers. (Bar the somewhat bizarre expenditure of 60 mil on Richarlison) The only position you could argue for 100% that we have strengthened is LWB.

No transfer that really screams ambition or trying to really push the boat out.

Just my opinion.

Where the hell has the Ziyech talk come from?

Do the media have no memory of THFC Vs CFC relations in the transfer window?
I'd say there's more chance of Spurs and Arse doing business

Maybe the new American owner will be more pragmatic than the previous owner . I can't remember it being such a big problem for players to move between the clubs prior to his tenure (and the current era of social media bollocks)?

It makes a lot of sense to have some movement with the scum, being in the same city , and given that hardly any other European clubs seem to have any money.

Is it that different?

Hart/Fraser
Reguillon/Perisic
Doherty/Spence
PEH/Bissouma
Bale/Richarlison

Net spend 20/21 £53m
Net spend 22/23 "about £80m

Throw in covid uncertainty, empty stadiums and Ropey league football, the spend difference is barely worth noting and we signed players in exactly the same positions.
It’s actually quite staggering when you put it like that. Even the same type of player in each position!

-An old, experienced cheap English back up keeper.
-A mostly very highly regarded left wing back (let’s hope Perisic proves a better buy than Regi)
-A solid mid table premier league midfielder for relatively cheap.
- a Brazilian number 9.
- a cheap second/third/fourth choice option at Centre Back.

Pretty much the only difference of any substance is the wild card of Bale in 2020.

Bissouma was/is much more highly regarded than Hojbjerg ever was. Perisic has been one of the bigger names in football for years and scored 8 whilst assisting 7 for one of Europe's biggest clubs, so again a much more reputable player than Reguilon, who was more on the highly regarded prospect tier.

And you can't compare Vinicius to Richarlison just because of nationality. One has zero Brazil caps, the other starts for them upfront & has been a top PL player for years. I'm not as enamoured with this window as some, but I don't see the point in pretending it's not a significant upgrade on 19/20.

Nah, they didn’t think they were shit. Mourinho just didn’t think they were ready. They were exciting young talents not 30 year old bench warmers like Ziyech.

Proof in the pudding - the scum sold them, rather than loaning them out and developing them.

Salah ran rings around us over two legs for Basel before signing for Chelsea. He was easily good enough for them, but Mourinho in his wisdom just didn't fancy him . Didn't he end up being a makeweight for Cuadrado deal?!

Take your point on Perisic and Richarlison. However tbf to Reguillon I would argue his stock was just as high if not higher than Perisic’s is now. He had just come off a similarly impressive season with Sevilla as Perisic had with Inter.

With regards Bissouma I think he is good don’t get me wrong but I really don’t know if he’s going to be this midfield Don, Dembele MK II so many on here think he’ll be.

At 25, there’s absolutely no way we would have had such a free run at him with no competition if he was as good as some rate him on here.

The whole Salah/Jose thing is a myth...... The dates don't check out.

KDB: Yeh; just a case of a young player stuck in the pecking order wanting gametime.

How old was Dembele when he came here? And was playing for Fulham.

Not a chance. Reguilon had one top season under his belt where he got a couple of goals & a few assists. Perisic is an established, borderline world class wing-back putting up ridiculous numbers. We're really lucky to have him, he's a top player. I had high hopes for Reguilon but he was never in that kind of category.

He was still way better than Hojbjerg ever was for Southampton. Bissouma has genuinely dominated games for Brighton & his underlying stats are incredible. I think we got a bit of a free run at him by acting quickly while there was still a bit of controversy around him. That and the 'elite clubs' currently seem to have top DM's.

I'm not arguing for signing Ziyech per se but I don't have an issue with signing an older player (he's only 29?) with a point to prove, especially at the right price (that price being under 20 ml).

25. He'd been playing at Fulham as a winger mostly until Jol converted him to midfield. Not saying he'll end up being as good but i reckon Bissouma is more highly rated than Dembele was when we signed him.

Exactly so who knows who much better Yves is going to get here as Dembele improved greatly in the role while here.
Shame he picked up covid while in Korea as he's probably the player I was mostly looking forward to seeing in the shirt.
