Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

DiMarzio said that as of now it seems Conte will walk after the season due to some personal issues, but there is a chance he could change his mind.

I watched the sky sports interview with him and I’m sure he never said that. He said it will be decided possibly in the next few weeks what he does and not he was definitely leaving. It was on ssn at 5pm. I’m sure someone can find it online to verify.

Our squad was shite last year and we were playing good football even in games we were losing. Our xG after conte came in last year improved massively. Thus his bitching and whinging was fair and tolerable as his management was observably improving the team and the squad was wildly deficient.

This year the football has been dross, we seem to be getting worse, and we’ve added quite significantly to the squad with Kulusevski, Bentancur, Richarlison, Perisic, and Bissouma. All quality proven professionals. The squad could still be improved, but it’s tough to tolerate the Conte drama when we’re not getting the results he has historically delivered.

I’m not content to beg a guy who believes he’s bigger than the club to stay if this is the football and results he’s delivering. Still time to turn the corner, but if he’s not dying to be here then I’m not really dying for him to stay either.

A defensive refresh in the summer and there’s plenty of managers who could do quite well with this squad. This isn’t like the side we had a couple years ago where Winks, Aurier, Sissoko, and Moura were starting. Our squad has dramatically improved the last 18 months.

It has but the number of key players injured has also gone up drastically this season. Every forward player injured bar Kane at some point, Even now we have 2 out currently, 2 still feeling their way back in and 1 has the yips.

Then add in our best CM and CB also missing for vital games and the squad available isn't drastically improved at all.

It could also be argued that Conte has been a factor in the squad improving as he's clearly pushed the club to sign better players.

He's far from perfect (who is?) but I don't think he thinks he's bigger than the club at all, I think he's pretty straightforward - he wants to win, he needs better players to achieve that (as you've acknowledged), he clearly sought assurances from the club about their backing and ambition and he's holding them to account. He wouldn't have signed up otherwise, he's not a yes man, he's driven and intense and a winner.

You can frame it as 'bitching and whinging and the Conte drama' but most of that is media driven, out of context quotes designed to sensationalize and get people clicking on social media and websites.

If you watch his press conferences and interviews in full, he actually says how he is 'proud and happy to be Tottenham manager'. That doesn't generate a story but he said that directly to Sky Sports on Monday after the game when asked. His most recent pressers (I posted a couple in full the other day) are not even remotely controversial.

HE wants to win, his whole career is based on winning and he won't suffer second best and won't take a job if that's the remit. He's not expecting £200m every window but he is expecting 2/3 good players every window to improve the team over the first few windows - he's said this openly. Don't we all want the same?

I get that people don't like the style, it's not my fave either, but that doesn't make me question his desire or make me ignore his character and career to date.

The 18 month contract is a problem and one the club should never have agreed to but that's on Levy who was up shit creek after his recent managerial fuck ups.

Personally I would be going balls out to get him to extend his contract, would back him within reason in the window too as I think he'll win us stuff. I appreciate others don't feel the same way.

I think Levy will fudge it as per and Conte will fuck off in the summer as he doesn't put up with a half arsed approach. I don't question his commitment now either, it's in his DNA to try to win and that won't change his commitment to this season, it may even strengthen his resolve and motivation to leave with a trophy and a top 4 finish. I just hope we give him a couple of players he wants this window and we really give it a good go.

In my opinion there was some Juventus-count negotiation for return to Turin where he lives his wife and his daughter. This is because Conte was disappointed by Levy about investments. Now, after the penalty of Juventus everything changes. In any case, count if it has to put pressure on the club, it does it: it has always done it because Levy cannot and should not hide behind a fig leaf.
However it is nice to read your interventions, you are a compenting fingerprint

People keep saying this but in every interview and press conference he has nothing but good and polite things to say about the club and players. If you watch that interview he did the other week with Jamie Weir of sky then you can see he is really quite humble about the club and couldn’t praise it enough. I’m not sure where this comes from.

Agreed.

Look at this example from no. 1 obsessive Chris Cowlin, takes a short section from a press conference, blows up a headline suggesting Conte is giving the club stick and posts it online so people will click on it and he'll get paid through youtube....and he's supposed to be a Spurs fan...

There’s not enough money in the world to make me work abroad, separated from my wife and daughters. I appreciate in some lines of work it’s necessary but not with his personal wealth and at his age.
There's no shame in that, and if he just came out and said it then I'm sure we'd all understand. We'd have some certainty at least.

Maybe he really wants to leave us with Top 4 in the bag and he's focussed on delivering that, in which case great. But if his head really isn't in it and he wants to go home then he and Levy really need to sit down and come to some agreement to let him go now because while there's even the slightest chance of Top 4 we need someone with their head in the game. I don't think we can make it, but while it's possible we need to 100% try.

Hard to unravel, death can certainly make us reassess life, and what's really important. I like to think we're a club that supports this.

Maybe it is a conversation he's had. Did someone say Kane was emotional in the post match interview when discussing Conte? Maybe our next candidate isn't ready, or available now. So many things could be at play here

Sure, none of us know. And if he's really in a place where he wants out for those reasons then maybe a severance deal can be thrashed out. Not sacked, not resigned just allowed to leave for his and our best interests.

Of course maybe he's fully focussed on Top 4 before he leaves. I just don't think our best interests are to be had with a manager who isn't mentally checked in, even if he is elite and even if our next guy isn't ready.

But I'm just a guy on the internet. I could be wrong and he's straining to sign a new deal. We may never know.

At this point I don't think it's what we want, it's where his heads at. If he's unhappy due to personal and family reasons I don't think a new CB is going to cut it.
We shall see, I think if he is getting backed and he left for reasons outside of football he will look back and regret it, however i do also agree there are other things that are more important than football and money, so if he choses being back with his family over us then no one can hold it against him.

Losing three friends his age might very well motivate him to spend more time with his family in Italy, and I can't say I'd blame him, we have limited time in this world, and spending years only seeing your family on the weekends is tough.

Seeing that spurs usually play matches at weekends he can’t see them for more than 1 full day a week - guess he flies back after games. Has his day off with them and then flies back.

Must be a bit shit for him. Most premier league football managers work 7 days a week too. They don’t ever really switch off.

Tottenham man is now going to ask to leave at the end of the season

Di Marzio says Conte will ask to leave Tottenham

He wrote: “Antonio Conte and the Tottenham board enjoy a good relationship. The Spurs’ manager’s contract will expire next June 30th, and the club has already offered him the possibility to stay with a new deal. However, Conte is now focused on the present, he does not want to think about his future.

“So, he asked the club to put the situation on stand-by. Conte is not living an easy moment, speaking about his private life: in the last few months, he has lost three good friends: Gian Piero Ventrone, Gianluca Vialli, Sinisa Mihajlovic.

“Some days ago, he said in press-conference: “Sometimes we place so much importance on work and put aside our families, the need to be with them. Then things like this happen and they make you think”.

So, our feeling is that Antonio Conte, at the end of the current season, will ask the club to terminate this adventure and, maybe, come back to Italy, to stay closer to his family, with new opportunities.

“But, as things stand, what Conte asked Spurs is now to put his future in stand by, after their contract proposal: there are no negotiations ongoing and he hasn’t asked yet to leave and he’s fully focused on Tottenham.”
