Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Conte at that stage would be towing the company line. It's not about what Conte said about the window....its what we thought and it still is. I wasn't on here during the summer but I wasn't overwhelmed by the window, quite the opposite.
My main measure and comments were.....have we improved our first 11 ? That's what we needed to do to move forward from just luckily scraping CL.

Hindsight ? I came to my underwhelmed conclusion based on assessing the players signed and predicting their potential chance of breaking into our best 11.

Here is the backing from the summer.
Forster....free.....past it.
Perisic....free.....past it.
Lenglet.....loan.....not good enough.
Udogie 15 mil......loaned out.
Richi 60 mil.....not really made much impact.
Bissouma 35 mil...see above.
Romero 42 mil.....not a Conte signing and often outperformed by Dier.

That's 110 mil on players making little or no impact. I don't count Romero. Spence wasn't a Conte signing so not backing.

My hindsight rating for this backing window is 2 or 3 out of 10 for what Bissouma and Richi might become.

I have a few rules reference my own posts. We are all Spurs fans so I'm not going to insult anyone intentionally or bully or be derogatory. If I disagree I will try and put my side across politely and offer an alternative thought.
I won't retaliate to any provocation.
A Spurs fan calling another names or insulting them is a shame and I hope I never go there.

Here's my thoughts on the window ;

Forster....free....HG... better than Gollini...frees up a squad place.

Perisic....free.....best WB at the club

Lenglet.....loan.....not good enough. (Fair) but loaned as we couldn't get No.1 target. We'll try again in the summer

Udogie 15 mil......loaned out..one for the future..looks very promising. Would prefer him loaned than sitting on bench behind Perisic.

Richi 60 mil.....not really made much impact..injured a lot ..WC..good squad player

Bissouma 35 mil... good player...needs time to settle... maybe our formation doesn't suit him

Romero 42 mil.....best CB at the club, although he does have a mistake in him

Levy must be terrifying in person as every manager who says they are happy are just toeing the line. Is Levy just out of shot on all interviews, slowly stroking a dagger and licking his lips?

Conte doesn’t strike me as a toeing the line person. He’s never been before. He’s not been whilst he’s been here. He has a huge amount of power in the club, so he’s not just going to doff his cap and say thank you sir. He’s going to say what he wants.

Before joining: "Conte is a bad-ass"... a "killer".... An "ass-kicker"... "Levy has nowhere to hide"....
Same people once he arrived: Conte is a simp.

You cannot say he didn't get backed just because the players wasn't his preference or the players failed. It's his job as a serial winner / coach in his prime to work and get the best of what he has

If you use the same logic then does that mean Mourinho has 0 backing ? Whatever conte is getting is still 10x better than what Mourinho got

Conte Won 2 cups at inter and leave them bankrupt

There was a vote on here where the majority gave our transfer window 7 or 8 out of 10.

10/10 being exceptional and 5/10 being adequate.

So think the majority thought he had been backed.

Hindsight is great isn’t it!!
I thought we had done good business. Bissouma looked great at Brighton, Richarlison was proven in a poor Everton side & Perisic is a winner.
Injuries and players’ form falling off a cliff (Lloris, Son & Dier) plus a World Cup stuck in the middle of the season seems to have derailed the club. There’s also been the personal tragedies for Conte.
It doesn’t excuse the football which, at times, has been awful to endure. I also ponder why Conte remains a slave to his system & seems totally unwilling to at least give Spence a run when we are crying out for a powerful RB to make the system he refuses to change, function effectively.
Hindsight is amazing, but there’s no way I’d have said Woolwich would be sitting at the top of the pile and that Liverpool & Chelsea would be languishing mid table. It’s been a very odd season.

Over 20 people voted the Rodon / Hart window 10/10 mind. 🤷‍♂️

We have a strange bunch on this forum
Yep. Hart, Rodon, Doherty, Requilon Bale, Hojbjerg, Vinicius. Oh and a guy called Keenan Feguson from Sheff Utd who i remember reading on here would be good back up at right back. I got the nostalgia for Bale and he scored a few and Hojbjerg has been okish but is limited. But people are so over excited for any signing there is no actual thought when we bloat the squad with cheap, opportunistic filler.

To be fair it was a good window for us. Last window wasn’t that bad we got Bissouma, Richarlison, Perisic in (ok Bissouma has struggled) but the expectations of a Spurs window are generally quite low so anything half decent looks amazing. In hindsight I think we would have had a great window if a top CB and RWB had come in on top rather than Lenglet and Spence (who Conte didn’t want).

We haven’t set the world alight but I honestly think we are 10-15 points short because we didn’t get a top CB and RWB that is the difference between us in the title race this year and where we are now. Most of our defeats have come via defensive incompetence and sadly the decline of Lloris.

About the most accurate description of the window.

It doesn’t matter what we thought of the window. As soon as the window shut, Conte instantly started playing down expectations.

He did that because his system needs a top class RWB and several top class CB. The transfer window went in with very public targets like Bastoni and Gvardiol, definitely talking about signing more than 1 CB.

I dont agree it was a good window. We started early which was a nice change. Bissouma was/will be a good signing. Richarlison i'm still not sure on, he isnt creative enough to start wide and will never be a 25 goal a season no 9 but i could see the logic behind it as he can play both roles. Perisic was a great player but 33/34 as a wing back in the prem? It was always short term at best.

We needed succession planning for Hugo and got someone the same age. As you say Spence and Lenglet a waste of time and we needed another creative player as we saw when Kulu was injured.

Its not hindsight, some of us said at the time we didnt do enough to improve the first team and after a promising start to the window it just petered out. So i'd say more 3 to 4 quality players short instead of the Forster, Lenglet, Spence signings.

There’s a lot of opinions on here.

I would be amazed if anyone thought the table would look remotely like it does today. Let’s be honest nobody in the summer was calling woolwich as almost unbeaten in the league going into February.

A funny old game indeed.

I don't follow the arse so their dealings went under my radar. I was aware of Jesus and Zinchenko. Without wanting to give any credit, it seems they have made some good decisions and been patient.

- People were buzzed as fuck about Reg.... Especially BEFORE we signed him... Shitting themselves at the thought of Man U getting him instead.
- Doh & Hoj were both Jose picks.
- Bringing Bale back was encouraged by a large amount of the fanbase.

+ Vini, Hart & Rodon squad options......

Not stellar, but without the gift of hindsight; it seemed like a decent batch of business.
