Manager Antonio Conte

Terrible recruitment.

But I don’t want to hear most of the people on here complain when they are frothing at the mouth about the fact it took too long to sign him. Fact is, he should never have been signed at all.

Still hope he tears it up and becomes a competent right back long term.

Wait, what?!

We definitely needed a RWB and another CB and a midfielder and an attacking player.

We got two and both are kind of on loan.

We did a bit but not nearly enough in the market. Typical Levy and ENIC.

They're the fucking problem, doesn't matter who the manager might be.

He shouldn't have rushed back, and I'm glad he's resting. I do have a feeling this medical leave will then transition into gardening leave though, so a non-sacking sacking. He gets to keep his CV clean with no firing on it, and we get to plan properly for his replacement starting now.
I hope he is okay but maybe you are right that it might work out that way. At the very least we will beat West Ham now with the assistant in place who seems to get more out of the players.

Funnily enough, his being supported during convalescing might actually create a sense of obligation in him.

Not that he doesn’t have it now, of course. But it might strengthen it further.

He'll get it and he may likely appreciate it. I don't see it influencing his desire to be here next season though.

TBH, I think he has more to give than we've seen this season and it would be wonderful to be a benefactor of that, but I'm not sure I relish a continued year-to-year 'will he leave?' guessing game.... It's too much of a distraction for the players and too much of a stress-point for the fans.

There's no basis to say Porro is a terrible signing.

We needed another good RB/RWB with or without Conte. Hopefully he'll turn out brilliant.

The problem, however, was the total failure to sign other improvements as well, most notably at CB.

I wonder if there will soon be a joint statement from the club & Antonio stating that he's taking some time away from football to recover fully, wants to spend more time with his family, end of contract in a few months anyway, Stellini in charge until a replacement has been found, blah, blah, etc., etc.

Or he'll be back next weekend full of the joys of spring.

Anything's possible.

Or Antonio has signed a new contract with us but will take a sabbatical until next season. Both as likely as far as we know? We have no real clue do we I suppose.

Hope he takes the time to recover fully and properly as he has not looked himself for a while now.

Not disappointed to have Stellini in charge, we arguably looked better with him recently than we have with Conte for a while.

Genuinely hopeless post.

He's played one game.

"Should never have been signed at all" but also references "long term" later in the post.

That isn't how it works. This is what you need to understand.

The squad isn't built for a manager if you have a DOF. That is the exact mistake that the club made for years before appointing Paratici. When you have a DOF they build the squad and then bring managers to work with it.

You may have noticed the praise that Brighton get for being able to bring in De Zerbi after Potter or being able to lose Bissouma and Drossard without feeling it. It's because they don't operate in the dinosaur understanding of football management that your post displayed.

Porro (like Udogie and Spence) is a squad purchase, not a manager purchase. He's not going to be converted into a full-back because it would be incredibly stupid to buy the best RWB available on the market and one of the best in the world, then change his position.

As for saying it's terrible recruitment after 1 game...Have a word with yourself.
