I’m surprised but I’m also not surprised we’ve fucked it up. I bet it was something to do with the compensation. Feyenoord wanted £20m and we’ve refused to pay that so he’s signed a new contract.

Pointless guess who it would be now or trusting any reports that it will be x or y until the next poor bastard is in the hot seat. Club is obviously a complete mess.
They cannot ask for 20m just arbitrarily, say he had 3 years left at 2m a year the contract can be bought out for 6m , if it’s 3m which I doubt it‘s 9m . i am sure the new contract is more now though , but that is academic sadly

I fully believe we've fucked it up. Even the Feyenoord DoF said we made him an offer so we were probably looking at the whole team. I suspect either arrogance thinking it would be easy or trying to low ball them on compo has changed minds. No way we didnt want him and i also reckon he was more than happy to come. Its us, its always us.

Honestly, I think we're all too hung up on the notion of a "top" Manager. I'm not even kidding, fucking Levy has to over engineer this shit every time, to the point that everything gets fluffed and we end up scraping the bottom of the barrel for dregs like Nono...

There's a whole heap of middle ground in between the likes of Mourinho, Conte, Naglesmann etc and then guff like Gattuso, Nuno, whoever. You know, a middle ground of competent Managers who know how to build a functioning football team.

Slot's currently flavour of the month, and I had begun to feel a little excitement due to all of the positive press I won't lie, but all you have to do is look at Emery at Villa to see that there are gettable managers out there, that don't need to cost the earth and don't require a bunch of stupid games and drawn out compensation talks to get hold of.

Club needs to get real first though, we aren't anywhere near the elite level on any front aside from shiny new stadium, and in a few years that will seem utterly meaningless, if not outright embarrassing if we don't sort our shit out on the pitch.

If we offered the bloke a chance and he chose to stay then fine but if we have allowed him to lever a new contract then two things.

One is that we should have seen it coming and the other is that uf Slot has done it, I hope he falls flat on his face.
I wouldn't for one second blame him for this, bearing in mind we still don't have our new DoF sorted, how much would you like to bet that we fucked around talking to him, discussed the terms of getting him out of his Feyenoord contract, fluffed him all up on the job, and then said "ok mate, we're just weighing you up against our other candidates and of course we will have to make sure the new DoF is onboard with you first and then we'll get back to you"???

Would you hang around and risk being told "oh no, sorry, our new DoF fancies Bruno Lage more mate..."?
