I think he probably wanted to come when first approached just like he was tempted by the Leeds job. I reckon we baulked slightly at the buy out and then when looking at the task where he would not be given the funds for the almost complete rebuild we need he decided he was better off staying.

That's not how compensation works in this regard. Whilst they would have to pay him his salary if they sacked him, we don't pay them his salary if we poach him.
