Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I won't disagree we tend to be cheap as fuck, especially in regards to low-balling and stalling transfers, but these two posters are talking about whether or not we will cheap out on a manager.

The facts are that we have backed up a Brink's truck to the previous two managers to the tune of ~15 million for each and a severance package to Mourinho of ~20 million. We have absolutely spent when it comes to managers since going the cheap route on Nuno and we have had shite results with those two as well.

There really is no rhyme or reason as to how this board manages this club but we have definitely spent money on managers recently.
That is a fair criticism.

They never were the 'best available targets' however.

Levy also probably drives a lot of cars with more chrome and leather than horsepower or torque. He mostly seems incapable of judging managerial or athletic talent.

But it's cheaper to hire and fire managers than to rebuild a squad capable of challenging for major honours. Far cheaper.

That's why we flunked the Champions League and dropped out of Europe altogether.

But regardless. If we're talking about Conte and Mourinho. The question has to be asked.
Why would a chairman known throughout the game for his austerity, spendthrift history and outspoken criticism of the inflated transfer market think it wise to employ two of biggest free spending chequebook managers in the game?

It's something that gets regularly swept under the carpet by the hard-core Levy fanatics

Being unable to recognize the difference between the club and Levy and ENIC, and blindly commiting to support them as one, simply means you will personally contribute to enabling the continuance of these issues.

Your heart is in the right place I think but you've taken a literalist, absolutist view that disempowers you from doing anything except hoping shit will get better.

I don’t think you understand the connection that many fans have with Tottenham. I’m not going to put that down to your nationality— I presume bk_ is a Brooklyn thing — as that would be arrogant and trite. Tottenham and ENIC appear to be synonymous to you. You’ve probably never known anything else.

What a well-crafted, indirect dig.

I was here before Poch- not that you took time to ask before painting me badly with a broad brush.

I'm much happier right now having season tickets to my local USL club.

Incidentally I didn't watch much during the Sherwood period either. I came back to watch more as the team started performing again.

It's natural to watch your club less if they are underperforming.
I don’t think it is though. I’ve never stopped watching us even when we were turgid in the 90s. It’s all a choice to be fair but I can never switch off from Tottenham. I hate it but I love it 🤣

I don't live in Brooklyn. You should really do less assuming.

Once again- I DO recognize the difference between THFC and Levy/Enic. They are parasites that have taken over the club and the only way to save the host is to purge them out.

Can we get on with it if we're going to appoint him, as it takes me ages to learn new names with more than two syllables.
I have no idea if he's going to be any good, I didn't even know who he was before I saw this thread. 🤭
I might be a bit cynical, but I'm wondering if the Celtic fans coming on here singing his praises are lulling us into a false sense of security. If he's that good, surely they wouldn't be wanting him to leave?
Anyway, I wish we'd just get on with it and maybe, just maybe, fourth time lucky 🙏
FFS no Celtic fan wants him to leave.

The only reason any Celtic fan comes on here is to correct some of the ignorant assessments of Ange's ability.

He's more special than the special one and we all want him to stay.

We actually have an inferior team now than the one we had before we moved in to the multi sports and entertainment complex ( which the football club is paying for)
It's a shocking state of affairs when you think about it.
I agree mate, total mismanagement from the prick and his board.
But should we be surprised by this, they are, after all, non football people who interest is financial only.
This is what levy himself said, financial reasons only for buying into spurs.
It's a real shame that, with these rich Arab's sniffing around clubs, that they won't buy our clowns out.

The big problem is we charge prices like a top club and talk alot of talk about wanting to be competitive, but we don't spend like one.

Not going after the best available targets shows you everything about what Levy and ENICs true interests are. That is the frustrating part.
We do spend. This is not the 2000s and 2010s. The problem is we have spent very badly.

If we had never spent more than 10 million on a player, but everyone we landed turned out to be a gem, no one would be talking about our spending. But because we have whiffed so badly with our recent signings, people think we are not spending, even though we have spent 40/50/60 million on players.

Forget before we moved in.

Spurs issued a joint statement with Haringey Council formally committing to building a new stadium in Tottenham, ending the Olympic Stadium sideshow, on January 31, 2012.

We also played at White Hart Lane that day, beating Wigan 3-1 to remain 3rd in the league. Here was the team

Adebayor
Bale Van der Vaart Kranjcar
Parker Modric
Assou-Ekotto Kaboul King Walker
Friedel

Our most recent home match at the gleaming spare-no-expense stadium was a 3-1 defeat to Brentford to slump to 8th. Here was the team

Kane
Son Kulusevski Danjuma
Bissouma Skipp
Davies Lenglet Sanchez Royal
Forster

11 1/2 years on, we've gone unmistakably backwards.

Ange?

What kind of name is that, only ever decent Ange was the one who run the
Queen Vic.

I know Scottish football is shit but surely they can do better than her

Totally agree. Both Conte and Mourinho were not the "best" targets, only the biggest named targets.

Levy has totally fucked this club up since Poch's firing by refusing to believe Poch when he said we need to rebuild. Instead, he has consistently opted for the duct tape approach.

I can't answer this question for certain but, in my view, he simply wanted to appease this fanbase by bringing in a glamour name. The backlash after hiring Nuno (what a fucking disaster) was so great, there was no way that he felt he could appoint some relatively unknown, progressive coach regardless of if that may have been the better option.

A lot of his decisions stink of a 10 year old playing FIFA Manager Mode. It's really depressing that he is in charge of the club we all love.
