I think it's rather telling that there is not even a firm forum favourite as to who we should sign in our most needy outfield position..... LCB
I think Laporte would probably be the forum favourite but he might be beyond our reach.

Also I think it's genuinely more difficult researching centre backs than attackers or midfielders unless you can watch a hell of a lot of football from start to finish.

Not a dig at anyone, and yeh, sexier positions naturally catch the eye; but I do think that people are somewhat prone to getting pre-occupied with the more exciting positions.

Laporte: I have my doubts about his durability/injury record.

Not a single player signed will be particularly important this year. The system is king. When we’ve had a good system we’ve reached a CL final playing Sissoko and Winks and been disappointed to finish 4th.

A Lcb, Am and WF would be great but if the most important work by far will be done on the training ground not the boardroom. That will elevate all the players we currently have who last season played well within themselves.

Somewhat off topic, but current trf affairs:

FIFPRO, who look after over 65,000 players from across the world, have warned players to not to make the move to the kingdom if given the opportunity.

(Doesn't entirely suprise me...... Keep the mega-stars happy and treat the rest like dirt........ All that glitters is not gold - nor particularly regulated - in this region.)

These reports make me laugh. Last Monday they said "Newcastle lead the chase", I then said I bet we get new ones saying we do and they then predictably appeared, over the weekend it was them and now it is us again. It is almost like they dont have a clue. Or as most of these reports seem to be coming from the north that it is their journalists handing out the copium for their fans becasue he'd rather move to London than play for their murderous regime.

Also not sold on Laporte.

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a good option out there. Gvardiol would be a firm favorite if any of us thought we had a chance.

The lack of links probably means the media can’t figure out where to place us in the market.

As for the club, they know that City and Liverpool are fishing for a LCB too. They can’t dick about if they have a target.

Willing to bet they like someone but it’s not out there yet. Possibly a right footer than can play LCB

Champions League really isn't a great of a pull as some think it is. If Maddison wants to join us over a team that's basically going to bankroll it's success, then he's gone up in my estimations. Maybe he's not such a cunt after all.

Apparently the latest one is actually a North east Newcastle source so this has legs. Interestingly mentions it will move quickly after international break. Maddison will be a brilliant signing
