Yes, but he was also great in the CL, in particular that match vs Bayern where he was MOTM.
With our squad as it is right now, he probably gets into the first XI at RCM under the 4-3-3 Ange system. That shows we seriously need to upgrade our midfield... but is also a sign that we shouldn't sell him unless we have a replacement lined up.
I fucking love it. If the PL ever finds a way to shut down their Saudi connection, these deals will relegate Chelsea.
The one question I have is what constitutes Levy getting it right?
I think for ffp 5 years was the maximum fee could be amortised now. This is about tying him in... Insane strategy
If van der Vet becomes the new Vertonghen, then we'd all want him to stay for the best part of his career. To be the bedrock of our defence for a decade.
And yes, there's always a chance a player so loves a club that he tells his agent he wants to stay, not move. And ultimately, fires his agent. But that's pretty rare.
With BASE, we seem to have a fairly healthy relationship where deals can be done. With a player whose agency is team Raiola, I think the risk of losing him after a couple of seasons, and not benefitting that much financially, are much higher.
Once the likes of Modric, Berbatov, Bale became elite players, we ended up selling them. But the bulk of the transfer fee came back into the club, and the fact Baldini's Magnificent Seven were largely failures, apart from Eriksen, is down to bad recruitment. The money came into the club, and was poorly spent.
With say Pogba, manure were fleeced financially every which way - transfer fee, agent fees, player signing bonuses etc - and stuck with a moody, oft injured, talented but fickle player. And Raiola was a massive part of the problem.

Crunching out the "no contest" line doesn't make it so. There are too many variables.

Alex Scott could be depended on to put in a shift; even if he's still developing.....
Ndombele has a couple of tasty CL performances on his CV too.....

And why are you worried about us getting fleeced if we have to sell him? It's the buying club that tend to foot that bill, if the agent is acting on their behalf. As I understand it, agents are only entitled to 10% of the transfer fee if they represent the buyer.
Lo Celso is better than Tielemans, Xhaka and Jorginho. Certainly in the RCM role we need filled (we have plenty of CDMs).
Alex Scott currently isn't at PL level, but could be in the future, so I'd definitely want us to buy him. But that's a separate issue from finding starters in our midfield now.
Kulu is a midfielder in a 433? I am uncertain he has the mobility for that. I think he can play #10 but from what I've read as Ange, he prefers 433 with a CDM, RCM, LCM.
Lo Celso is also a lot better at RCM than Skipp is at CDM. Our current best midfield with Bentancur injured is Bissouma Sarr Lo Celso imo.
Ndombele stopped giving a shit about football, I'm not sure that can be compared to injury issues of Lo Celso.
Also Emery has a lot of experience working with him, and is a details orientated man. If he feels that Lo Celso has something to offer in the PL, it's something serious to consider.
Btw I'm not a 'fan' of the guy... I just think it's not smart to sell him for a low price if the alternatives are worse.

Or, we leak that we are going after van der Ven to pressure Leverkusen to agree on a reasonable price for our real target, Tapsoba.
It’s basically impossible to know from these leaks what’s real and what’s being leaked for strategic leverage reasons. I mean, it’s entirely possible that the Raya leaks were just meant to help our negotiations with Vicario - none of us have any idea.

All this is predicated by the hypothetcial scenario where GLC lights up training and colours Ange to be a very impressed man; whilst also ignoring past evidence.
He's already proven a comparatively bigger contributor to GLC.
Fair enough, Ange gives him a run in training; but best option to start based on prev. hard evidence....? Hell no.
