Ill say this. A proper no nonsense club desperate for a creative goalscoring attacking midfielder like Maddison would have got this done quickly and quietly and moved on. I mean for fuck sake hes at a relegated club.

Yes he will be expensive. Yes he fits the bill in every way for what we are crying out for.

For once just get it done

I'm convinced it was a last grasp stab at convincing Conte to stay TBH.....

They way Levy is portrayed by most on here; do you honestly think he would have otherwise looked at our squad and though Emerson, Doherty & Spence wasn't enough to be getting on with (at least until the end of the season)????

.....Yet there he was splashing €45m + add ons on what could be loosely described as Spence 2.0????

Complete and utter narrative clash.

The way Levy is portrayed is that we got Spence instead of Porro in the summer and Lenglet instead of Bastoni.

Which you could be forgiven for wondering if that contributed to Conte not sighing a new contract during the World Cup.

You might also be forgiven for being skeptical about what might happen after Maddison gets done as the big splash of ambition this summer…

Leicester are kidding themselves on if they think they’ll get £60 million for him. Even if they didn’t get relegated they’d still not have got that. We obviously want him but we do need 2 centre backs plus him. The hard bit is offloading the deadwood to generate even more money to what’s available.
Maddison is a poor man’s Eriksen in his prime but he’s exactly what we need just now.

agree Maddison appears to be a poor man's Eriksen and if we are playing £40-50m I would rather we pay more for the someone better
but I've never rated Maddison week in/week out

Inverted full backs don't play b2b, they come in field and hold shape, they are essentially deep lying playmakers (think Zinchenko)

Udogie has never played that role in his life, he's an aggressive touch line wing back

Maybe Ange will deploy him as a winger, or change his formation so he has an overlapping full back but he's certainly not an inverted full back

Im guessing you've never seen an Ange team. It's fine.

I think we’ve wasted a lot of money on Ange, given how many tactical geniuses we clearly have on this forum who would be willing to do the job for a lot less money.

Thanks but this really has no relationship to the post that you replied to...

The question at hand was how/why we came to sign Porro.

I think Ange is about to get a Shot of Reality.

Could the Real Mr Levy Please stand up.

Porro and Kulusevski are counted by many as last years signing, this apparently is not true.

Clever Levy tactic. Sign a player this year, people get happy for a new signing, pay for the player next year and he gets counted for next years signings as well.

How much did Spurs spend last season under Conte?

Imagine getting angry at something that hasn't happened yet all because of a tenuous report

I think for a while he was visibly a bit of a twat.... Posing with cars and getting too caught up in image; in danger of disappearing down the footballing plug-hole a bit like Dele, Lingard and few other English lads of this generation.

However somewhere around 2 years ago he started to come across as a lot mature in his interviews...... Perhaps getting exiled by Southgate after getting busted in that Casino woke him up a bit... If not that then fatherhood (2021 and birth of second child expected Jul 2023).

Yeah sometimes there is a lightbulb moment for players. The only fear is they go back to doing what they did previously, but I don’t think it will be the case with him.

He seems such an obvious signing that I hope it happens. The amount of chances he will create for Kane is enough to make it an obvious one for us to want to do.

Once again ppl at the time were “he’s baller, just pay the money and get it done”

But we usually pay with instalments over a number of years, so it's not like we've already spent 70 mill this summer on the Porro and Kulu deals

Tell me how his team sets up then...

When his full backs come narrow, they're definitely not used as deep lying playmakers.

Personally, I'm hoping we don't play his Celtic 433 as right now we aren't suited to it.

Everything I've read on him and his team's, I'd much rather his alternative 433 or 4331 where we have a focal point up top, our wide players come inside in between the lines, our full backs stay wide and midfield stay relatively compact. As I think our squad is much more suited to it.

But I get the feeling we'll be playing his lopsided 433. Emerson will be our starting right back and come in at times to make it a back three with Udogie bombing forward

And a properly run club would say that we have Bissouma, Bentencaur, Skipp, Winks, Hojbjerg, Sarr, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Kulusevski all playing in midfield. Add to that Mundle and Devine who are vying for inclusion in our senior squad.

11 players, for 2 or 3 spots - and no European football.

Maybe ask the coach if any of them do the job before we splash out 50m?

The idea of seeing maddison in a Tottenham shirt horrifys me , I've always had a strong dislike of him . In all honesty that's probably got more to do with the state of his head than his ability as a footballer though...
