When his full backs come narrow, they're definitely not used as deep lying playmakers.

Personally, I'm hoping we don't play his Celtic 433 as right now we aren't suited to it.

Everything I've read on him and his team's, I'd much rather his alternative 433 or 4331 where we have a focal point up top, our wide players come inside in between the lines, our full backs stay wide and midfield stay relatively compact. As I think our squad is much more suited to it.

But I get the feeling we'll be playing his lopsided 433. Emerson will be our starting right back and come in at times to make it a back three with Udogie bombing forward

So how are they used then?

All the videos I've seen suggest that his full backs come in field to offer more passing lanes and are heavily involved in the build up and outnumber the oppo in the middle of the pitch.

What you're asking Udogie to do is essentially play as a midfielder and be patient in his build up play whilst picking out the right passes, I've seen nothing to suggest that Udogie can do that...playing as an explosive/aggressive wing back is very different from playing in field as a midfielder.

But I agree I don't think we'll play like that first off anyway but if he's going to revert to his usual tactics he's going to need full backs who are smart in possession as I'm not sure if any of our lot have the quality to do that.

I get people are just excited to see new signings in the team but there's no point putting square pegs in round holes.

It's not, O Keefe saying that no-one wants our players.

No wayyyyy

Will have to pay a lot of their players to leave. Laughable that people have assumed we will get fees for any of them, no-one will match their wages even if they are free. Perhaps 2M for Davies but that’s about it.

Torch them
Now I'm not a believer in these 'player+cash' swap deals that ALWAYS seem to be suggested in the 'Paper Talk' but rarely ever materialise....

THAT said; taking into account our seemingly impossible task of finding takers for our 'deadwood' plus the common notion that none are good enough for us, and barely good enough for the rest of the PL... there MUST be someone we could offer Leiectser to in part exchange for Maddison??

You're not telling me Winks or someone like Dier/Lo Celso or (checks who else we have to unload) Reguilón wouldn't do well there?
Sampdoria are way worse than Leiectser, but Winks was prepared to go there!
Why not give a promotion push from the Championship a stab??

I dunno, just a thought ...

£45m+Winks (or A.N.Other) seems like quite a good deal for Leicester to me ...

I'm guessing the rarity of such deals is often because there's too much of a difference in the two clubs' valuation of the makeweight.

The value of anything is what someone is prepared to pay. If, for example, we invited bids for Harry Wink of any price and then received none at all, not even a derisory £10,000, then Winks' value is effectively £0. So in this case Leicester would be justified in saying (from a financial point of view) that we were trying to get their highly-valued player at a cut price.

I imagine it's an issue in accounting terms, they have to record the asset that is Winks at "fair value", an auditor would want to know what his nominal fee was as part of the Maddison deal.

I would imagine Udogie would be used as someone who underlaps our winger and gets forward. With our two centre backs and right back pushing over and Hojbjerg/Skipp/Bentancur dropping deep.

I think in attack we're ultimately going to look like this :

ST
LW... Udogie..... CM.... RW
CM........................
#6
CB.............................CB..........RB
Overloads, unpredictability but more importantly always someone available. Udogie underlapping. Wingers staying wide, though when they come inside in between the lines, Udogie drops a tad deeper and a bit wider. Lone 6 to control but also capable of dropping between the centre halves.

That's exactly how it works but the wingers stay wide and high to invite attacking lanes for the inverted FBs, the #6 has to be ready to drop, and the wingers have to be ready to cover for the FBs.

Imagine how unrelenting the press is with every player bar the keeper in the other half.

Keeper ten yards out of the box to be used an extra sweeper.

I think Ange is about to get a Shot of Reality.

Could the Real Mr Levy Please stand up.

Porro and Kulusevski are counted by many as last years signing, this apparently is not true.

Clever Levy tactic. Sign a player this year, people get happy for a new signing, pay for the player next year and he gets counted for next years signings as well.

How much did Spurs spend last season under Conte?

Ah. A negative article in the press so it must be true.

If that had been a positive article, you and your ilk would have said it was just the Express so probably made up nonsense.

:llorishuh:

Anyone who disagrees with this post is wrong. And we all know who they are.

Usual suspects in the Porro thread as well...

Wait, are people seriously saying Porro was a bad signing because some dudes on twitter don't think Ange can coach a 23 year old to play FB?

He was our 2nd most effective player after Bentancur got injured.

People want to judge a guy that was learning a new language and changed system 3 times in a matter of weeks, whilst also learning who his teammates are?

Some of you guys will really go with any old narrative to try and win your arguments.

You think Spurs accounts/accountant cares about any such drivel... It's hollow fan rhetoric.... The only thing that matters is where the payment(s) sit on the books.
