He's one of the better Spurs journos, although if I'm not mistaken he's a Woolwich supporter.
He's a good journo, I prefer the longer-read stuff which he delivers in spades (although even I find some of his pieces way too long sometimes). He's also a very nice fella, I've played football against him a couple of times now his team plays on Hackney Marshes (can't remember who his team are called)

He's Woolwich through and through, (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/03/02/Woolwich-fan-view-stayed-away-emirates/)

We didn't need a top class RWB for the system we were playing?

If we had signed Nagelsmann or Luis Enrique, who both regularly use WBs, would this even be a question?

Did we sign him knowing that he'd played as a RB without the ball for Sporting and assume he could also play FB but we were signing one of the most productive offensive RB/RWBs in Europe?

Basically everyone has assumed based on a very small sample of Porro adapting to the prem, during one of the club's most chaotic periods that he will never be a RB. It's fucking mental.

Also, I might be wrong but Spence was out on loan and Emerson was yet to have his rebirth at the time we signed Porro?

Nope, the manager was out the door so we didn't need him, weird signing.

If the club had a plan in place as to who we were going to bring in at that point I could understand it but it was obvious he was bought just to appease Conte, but fans always know best obviously #backconte

Now we have a player who we will need to bend and mould into that inverted right back position, we have the Udogie issue all over again on the opposite side

Your assumption is that Porro was only signed for Conte.

It's an assumption based on very little evidence

There's literal evidence in front of your face if you opened your eyes and stopped being stubborn for a change.

Why else would the club buy a wing back for a fucking manager who plays a wing back system? For shits and giggles?

This is the same guy who was plying silly buggers with Spence all year just to send a message to the board by the way, he got his wish in the end although at that point it was too late, if they pulled the plug on the deal it really wouldn't have mattered.

You can deny it all you want but you're just deluding yourself.

There's always been what you might call a "Football Manager " aspect to forums and social media - "Buy a, b and c, sell x, y and z. move m from left back to right wing" and so on - but it's hyperspaced to a whole new quadrant of late.

People who, beyond a highlights reel haven't seen a single second of Vicario, Van de Ven, Tapsoba and so on, who haven't seen a single second of an Ange team, have become experts on inverted full backs and all manner of other such things.
Sir Bill wins by KO.

No This is where the convo started:

It's more about the fact that we didn't need him as much as people who were losing their shit suggested even though Conte wasn't going to stick around.
I don’t think most fans knew Conte wasn’t going to extend his contract until after the January window. Royal was Public Enemy #1 for the first half of the year, so most of us were desperate to replace Emerson and make Conte happy.

Hindsight…Conte’s a total asshat and Royal went on to have a really strong January and February. Whether Levy knew Conte wasn’t coming back is another question. I don’t personally like to shit all over Levy for everything, however, he should’ve known that Conte was done by the time he put pen to paper with Sporting.

Lastly, I really like Porro and hope he fits in Ange’s system, so I’m not saying he’s a bad player at all. Just that I don’t think we spend that kind of cash on him this window, like we did in January.
