We need quality all the way through the team, not just buying Maddison then step all the way down in quality buying the likes of Lenglet or CCV.

18. Nico Schlotterbeck, Borussia Dortmund

Schlotterbeck was in the World Class category for the 2021/22 season. One I would have liked for us to try and get, but too late now. He was on a free too, same as Sule.

I have a hunch (and it’s nothing more than that) that Ange isn’t going to go his traditional 433 this season and will try a 4231 instead?

Why?

A lot of our players just don’t seem to fit the system he normally plays. Our set of full backs are broadly attacking and we’ve spent a significant sum over the last 12 months on Porro, Spence and Udogie who don’t seem to suit inverted full backs.

I’ve seen talk of Royal in that role but that petrifies me. A player that limited technically near the CM position is a frightening prospect.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have full backs bombing on and a more conservative CM pairing?

Similarly I don’t see Maddison as an 8 at all. Could he do a job? Possibly. But you’re definitely not getting the most out of the asset by playing him there. The man is best as a 10 making things happen in dangerous areas and I feel that’s where we’ll deploy him. Similarly I’ve seen mention of Kulu as an 8, are people really confident he can be effective there?

Nothing about the current composition of the squad says 433 to me, it feels much better suited to a 4231 with attacking full backs and a more conservator CM pair.

As I say, just a hunch and I’m more concerned with the attempted brand that the tactical setup in the first few months under Ange. But a lot of it is pointing that way…..

Sounds like you've been around supporting spurs 4 a while.. do you remember another player that got so much stick it effected his performances .. John lacy... When it was announced he was leaving me.. he played and a mate and ME looked at each other in almost disbelief.. he played like the player we were expecting.. unfortunately it was to late .. but just went to show me how a crowd can cause players to lose form ..
We've had form for this for years, as a fan base.

Remember John Pratt? He was the go to scapegoat for years. Spider was another who's face didn't fit.

Incidentally, I played against Spider when he dropped down to the semi pro leagues at St Alban's. He was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch, lovely bloke too.

Just goes to show the gulf in class from those who "nearly made it" to those who did, however briefly.

Very quiet today.

I suppose that allowed after two signings in two days but I’m greedy..
