I didn't mention names; but there's a "modern" trend where-upon people are majorly focussed on those things and actually forget what the job of a defender actually is.
I don’t think the job of a full-back is solely to defend anymore. It isn’t enough in the modern game.

The reality is that if you don’t have competent footballers throughout your team you’ll be doing much more defending because you won’t be able to retain the ball.

100%. It’s not black and white but most top managers would veer with football ability > defending for a full back… clearly depressing dinosaurs like Jose and Cunte would go the other way first

Perhaps not, but to come full circle; just because Emerson isn't a potent attacking threat it doesn't mean he is an incapable RB.... Especially if we're going to be playing a kind of hybrid FB/CM.

We got a taste of him in a similar area of the pitch at the end of last season and he was playing well.

Bayern better pay up then eh?

We've just seen the likes of Mount go for 60 odd million. Rice go for a record transfer fee for a British player.. Both with one years left on their deal.

We're talking about England and Tottenham all time top goalscorer. One of the greatest strikers of his generation... If people aren't willing to pay the price. That's not on us.

But best believe we arent spending with selling Kane in mind. We're spending because we have glaring holes in our squad and the need to rebuild is massive. Not getting European football was a massive blessing.
Mount is 60 million if an English rival team buys him. If it was bayern it would be less. Unless we are happy selling Kane to Manutd, Chavs, etc, it would be difficult to get that same sort of inflated value.

Ahhh.... A point you've previously refused to understand rears it's head once more. The fact is I don't care who's reporting as long what I reading contains substance (tangible/credible quotes).....

You mention sources, there is not tangible source... Just the claims of yet another piss poor website that have NO sources either.
There are rarely tangible/creditable quotes.
I refuse to believe you indulge such shitty media outside of the football world and apply no filter when getting your so again; the question ... Why bother us with it here?
Because summer transfers are full of rumours and speculation, I'm not going to wait for Ange/Levy other people from other clubs to say we are interested in this player or we are not interested in this player. You're bothered by it perhaps others out of the 100's, 1000s? of members aren't.

.......But seriously enough to re-post, it seems.

Perhaps I have got you all wrong... Are you just clout-chasing afterall?
If I wanted to do "clout chasing" I'm sure there are better ways.

If you want to make this thread more serious approach Admin with a set of rules, that you'd like, perhaps:
No ITK from SC/Twitter.
No off topic chat
No articles unless there are credible tangible quotes.

What we reallly need is a cross between Emerson and Porro, I mean Emerson has what Porro lacks and vice versa for Porro.
Train them ceaselessly against one another, until the skills merge as best they may with one another?

The Buddhists do Visualisation, so perhaps we should ask Porro to have Posters of Emerson and vice versa, in each others houses, to best empower.

A mantra also, repeated poems:

Emerson to chant over and over : Porro attacks like a king, release this attacking pauper in my spirit and capture the essence of Porro, Porro, Porro

Porro to chant over and over : Emerson defends like Royalty, release this defensive pauper in my spirit and capture the essence of Royale, Royale, Royale

Level9 stuff.

I also can't recall Spurs ever wrapping deals up not just early, but also quickly. The speed at which Vicario and Maddison went from talks to actual, THFC official announcement was uncharacteristically quick. Which suggests to me that there is less haggling going on. If there's less haggling going on, it likely means there's money coming or wages being taken off the books.

We did business earlier last summer but don't remember it being this quick, especially for a big deal like Maddison.

tbf it's only 2 deals. Still could be that we see more normal spending and negotiating from here.

BUT

If we see Tapsoba, another Cb and an expensive winger done quickly as well, the skeptical will be forgiven for wondering wah grwarn

I wouldn't know about any of that.

Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane is getting "closer and closer" to Bayern Munich with Spurs and the Germans "negotiating to reach an agreement".

Who is leaving Spurs this summer?
Ange Postecoglou's arrival marks the beginning of a new era and the return of attacking football at N17, with the Australian already receiving chairman Daniel Levy's backing before he's even officially started.

The former Celtic boss is set to begin his reign as Spurs manager tomorrow but has already seen both goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and playmaker James Maddison join his new club permanently.

They're also chasing a new centre-back signing, with talks reportedly ongoing for Micky van de Ven of Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba.

To fund these moves, though, Levy and the north Londoners will need to generate cash through player sales - and there are plenty of squad members to choose from.

Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic, Davinson Sanchez, Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier and Ben Davies have all been linked with exits, while Spurs could also look to offload Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Tanguy Ndombele (The Telegraph).

Harry Winks is thought to be already on his way to Leicester City, while one player who Spurs definitely won't want to part ways with is Kane.

Spurs have already rejected a £60 million verbal offer from Bayern Munich in recent days, but according to TUTTOmercatoWEB, the Bavarians are coming back in again.

This time, they're set to offer an all-in bid of around £70 million for Kane, with TMW's headline stating Kane is getting "closer and closer" to Bayern.

Both Tottenham and Thomas Tuchel's side are allegedly in "constant contact", whilst "negotiating to reach an agreement" around the £70m fixed base.

Levy, though, is demanding a minimum of £86m for Kane, according to this report.

What's been said about Harry Kane?
The 29-year-old has been praised throughout his career, and for good reason.

Kane is both Spurs' all-time top goalscorer, having recently surpassed the legendary Jimmy Greaves, with Tottenham's striker also taking over Wayne Rooney as England's greatest ever goal-getter.

Called a "genius" by football writer Andrew Gaffney, the former Leyton Orient loanee has also been seriously endorsed by former Lilywhites boss Antonio Conte.

"We are talking about a world class striker,” Conte said.

“He deserves the best because he's a great worker, hard worker... this is not normal because usually the players that have talent many times don't like to work hard because they have talent.

“In my career I didn't have great talent [so] for this reason I worked hard. What I liked about him from the first time was his ability. He was a big example for his team-mates.
Am i the only one feeling these stories are just tiresome by now, and extremely lazy journalism?!?!

They are still to this day spinning myths from the past! "Need to sell before buying" yada yada yada! No we don't, WE HAVE MONEY!!

I mean using one good game for a player that has had many many bad ones as proof of his ability to play as an inverted full back is really stretching it.

Emerson Royal isn’t good enough. He’s not a top 10 PL player let along a top 6 one.

He’s the antithesis of how all modern full-backs play. Being decent defensively just isn’t enough anymore.
He had many many good games but that's never stopped elements of our fan base going Salem and disproportionately targeting some player. As for your certainty about where a player will or will not be suitable in a system the coach is yet to send out. Well let's politely call it speculative. You also very wrong on what constitutes technique.

60m Richy?
Big wage Perisic?
Biss from an always tough negotiating Brighton.

.....Depends what you mean by a "big deal" I guess.

I wouldn't hold my breath for "an expensive winger"....... Or five players all wrapped in the first few weeks of the window for that matter.
