I don't think we're buying VDV as an attacking option, I think we're buying him because we desperately need competent CBs.
Given Udogie’s age and inexperience, having a solid versatile player like Van de Ven being who’s able to play either CB or LB is a huge blessing… especially since he’s also very strong and quick… the polar opposite of Davies
By all accounts Ange likes one of the full backs to push on and the other to sit inside and push on. Could be VdV plays as the more defensive one whilst Porro pushes on?
Or ofc he is playing as a CB as his pace will help us when teams try to break on us
I’m not totally against this as a 5th choice option but with the proposed high press and high defensive line Lenglet is a worry. Would much rather sign Tapsoba, Van de Ven and Tosin (and get rid of everyone else barring Romero).

I don't want Lenglet and I don't think we'll sign him but I see no reason why being in a high line would be his issue. We played a high line with Vertonghen and he was really slow on the turn. Being on the front foot however and having a centre back in Toby next to him to mop up, helped tremendously.
It's everything else with Lenglet. Not his pace.
Vert was much sharper than Lenglet, and quicker. Agree he’s not good enough but his pace is part of that
