I think it depends on who the other CB is,

Tosin can play LCB and is prem ready so relieves some of the pressure on a young VdV straight away.

Lenglet would just be a massive lack of ambition as the other CB. We had him and conceded 60 goals

What we did last season is somewhat irrelevant though. Different manager, different coaching, different system.

We conceded 58 league goals in Pochs first season and he had Lloris, Rose and Vertonghen starting most of the games in defence...

A few good signings suited to his system and we followed that by reducing our goals conceded to 35 the following year and 26 the year after with those same players..

Not sure Lenglet is the guy for that system

Is there anything to back that up?

As far as I recall he was as close to faultless as you could get in his first season.

Vertonghen made the most individual defensive errors leading to a goal in the league in 13/14 of any defender.

Might have to change the season on the filter.

see how you have put together first & second 11s
just wondering when the second 11 are getting game time ?
with only league cup & fa cup for the second 11 not much game time
wonder if we loan out/sell many in second 11
If we win them both there will be!!

Well short of trawling though all the goals of that season no. But i remember as good and popular as he was he was getting grief from a minority that he was error prone. He did make mistakes, perhaps not Sanchez falling on your arse mistakes but they were there, albeit you could see the class in him.

Thing is are there many if any 22 year old centre backs that arent raw? Ledley made mistakes at that age, Vertonghen came to us at 25 and made quite a few mistakes in his first season. They turned out to be the best 2 centre backs i've seen for us.

Absolutely.

VdV is a prospect signing.

A great one by the looks.

Does he upgrade our starting CB unit for this season?

less clear.

Not really watched him though so let's see if it gets done.

They need 2 CBs though.

Well, we're going to lose Sanchez. Which leaves us with Dier, Romero, Tanganga and Rodon as our centre halves (I don't think Davies plays cb in a back four).. So I'd say yes, he upgrades our starting cb for the season.

We will get errors. But i think we'd get errors with Tapsoba too. That's Ange football. Mistakes will be made because it's high risk high reward football.

If Dorrington is ready then yes, but he must be ready.
He's not ready.
He's never played men's football.

He needs a year on loan.

Dier will stay. Maybe Japhet too as he is club trained.

Sanchez and Rodon will go.

I don't see us getting Tosin personally.

It'll probably be something like this:
Romero, van de Ven/Tapsoba, Dier, Tanganga.

Really wouldn't understand the point of getting Lenglet too.

In regards to Laporte, as good of a player as he is I'm not really too bothered mostly due to our track record of signing players that are taking a 'step down' to join Spurs..

With the exception of van der Vaart, I struggle to think of many examples where it has worked out, but plenty where they have been shit.
I would be much more worried about his injury record

Also, getting VDV first would make sense from a "selling it to him" perspective. If we had got far and close to signing Tapsoba. I assume VDV would be less interested.

Big 2 weeks coming up.
