We don't have enough money?
agreed.Monetarily there should be no excuse.
Woolwich just wasted 170m on Rice and Havertz. We should be able to afford Tapsoba Van de Ven.
The only (potential*) problem with getting both is that if we play a back 4, one of the newbies (or Romero) won't be first choice. And please could people stop with this nonsense about everyone fighting for a starting place, no one being back-up etc, it's so naive - in reality, whilst of course a manager might pick different players for different games to some extent, in reality both we and the players will all soon know who the manager's prefered starting choices are, especially with a defence where you don't really want to be chopping and changing every week unless it's forced. So if we sign both Tapsoba and VdV, presumably VdV won't start games, at least not until he's proven he's better than Tapsoba or Romero. If he's happy with that, and understands that he's signing on that basis, great. If he doesn't, i.e. if he expects to start immediately, and has signed on that understanding, then we'd just be creating a pissed off player from the off by then signing Tapsoba to start ahead of him.
In a way we can afford to just go with vdv and if he flops go for someone else next season. If he succeeds we don't need to bother with tapsoba etc.But we dont offer top tier wages? Certainly not in line with what we could. And no European football with one game a week, meaning no true need for rotation.
We can offer Tapsoba and Van De Ven more than they're on now sure. But we can't guarantee both of them first team football so you've really got to question what their ambition is.
Whereas Tosin for example would know he's not going to be first choice. But more than good enough to step in.
Which is why we are more likely to end up with VDV and Tosin. Which is more than good enough and a huge upgrade on Rodon, Tanganga, Dier and Sanchez.
Wouldn't surprise me if we sign van de Ven and reignite our interest in Tapsoba either in January or next summer when he'll end up being cheaper but also with potential need of rotation the following year. Plus, Dier will be off.
Ok, do they have every right to be pissed at one trophy in 23 years and 8th place finish last season too?Normally i'm anti meltdown but if we end up with just one new CB this TW then the fans have every right to be pissed, we clearly need 2 and I'm not talking about VDV + Lenglet.

Nobody heard one.
In a season when we're bedding in a new lb, who's primarily played at wing back, having a rotation like vdv would be great. Top two teams in the PL last season played cb's at full back, and didn't require much if any overlapping run. Romero, who misses many games through injury/suspension, has a natural replacement in Tapsoba and Tapspba has a natural replacement in vdv. LB is a potential problem position for us this year so would be smart move for one of the cb's we bring in to be adept there imo.The only (potential*) problem with getting both is that if we play a back 4, one of the newbies (or Romero) won't be first choice. * of course there are other permutations. Ange could play a back 5, or he could play VdV as LB in a back 4. Vdv might simply relish the challenge of not going straight in. Etc. I'm just saying that IF none of that is the case, then signing Tapsoba after VdV might cause problems...
Injuries, loss of form, playing 3 at the back on occasion, Romero downing tools before Argentina call up, Tapsoba going to AFCON would mean we need at least 4 good centrebacks. Therefore just buy 1 of Tapsoba, VDV or Tosin and keep Lenglet for back up. Then We have a long term injury and Lenglet plays first team for 6 months. No thanks. The only (potential*) problem with getting both is that if we play a back 4, one of the newbies (or Romero) won't be first choice. Except for Madison the others want to join us that’s true but you try to sign Mount, Gvardiol etc and there’s no way in hell they would come without Champions League.agreed.
This is actually the first window in ages that ALL our targets want to join us (Europe being the be all and end all is/was absolutely bollocks). We need to take advantage of this and bring in ALL the players needed for Ange to get a fair crack of the whip.

We should be able to pay for VDV with defensive outgoings. Sanchez, Rodon, Tanganga and Sess will more than pay for him. Tapsoba should be the one we spend our kitty on.Monetarily there should be no excuse.
