Top two teams in the PL last season played cb's at full back, and didn't require much if any overlapping run. Romero, who misses many games through injury/suspension, has a natural replacement in Tapsoba and Tapspba has a natural replacement in vdv. LB is a potential problem position for us this year so would be smart move for one of the cb's we bring in to be adept there imo.

Yep, agree with all of that, and hope that's how it has been sold to VdV, and hence hope that we then go and get Tapsoba too. :)

Any more than that is overkill. Of course the sensible thing would be to not buy a shit player like Lenglet and buy Tapsoba instead.

If Dier goes they maybe get a 3rd CB and it’s probably Lenglet

Yeah it would probably be a smart move to keep him until January as cover for Bentancur as you say, and maybe he'll take his chance to impress this time, no doubt he has the skills it's just his attitude that needs to change,

His first scout report on him after one game was much less positive.

Apparently watched more games and changed his mind.

Personally, no clue what to expect but this is another player that had been chased by clubs like Liverpool and Bayern, it’s probably a one time window to sign a talent like this.

Doesn’t mean he ends up World Class but he has that ceiling it seems
 
Perhaps the talks of only bringing in one are simply to keep both camps happy?

If its known we want both and we sign one. Nothing stopping that other team from raising their fee etc.
