I'm particularly keen on VdV over Tapsoba, simply because of his pace. I can't see a great deal of difference between them regarding their defensive capabilities, and at full gait he's a rampaging beast we've missed since Walker left.

Ideally, we get both, but it's VdV then Tapsoba for me. If we only had enough change for Tosin, that's fine, but now is the time to dare-and-do.

So close to signing VDV and hearing about how incredible he is from the Celtic & Empoli fans who inexplicably have a nan who supports Wolfsburg. And they’re armed with .. you guessed it, charts !!!

(But seriously .. is he good? And I do mean people who have watched him & not just read a hipster article on twitter or watched a YouTube comp … who is the true Bundesliga aficionado on here?)
nobody watches the bundesliga
I couldn't resist:ledley:

Announce Van de Vaart... err... Van Der Valk... err... Van Gogh... err... Dick Van Dyke... err... White Van Man... err.......

Just announce him! Promo vid of him enjoying a schmoke and a paaancake ja!

Monetarily there should be no excuse.

Woolwich just wasted 170m on Rice and Havertz. We should be able to afford Tapsoba Van de Ven.
We should be able to afford a proper beast, forget the fact we finished 8th and got no European footy. You pay the money, the club will sell, the agent & player will say yes please.

Tapsoba & VdV are good players, no denying that...the former being a bit more advanced in his development than the latter. And yeah, get them in, get them playing, see what happens. But let's be honest, a few weeks back the vast majority of dudes on here had never heard of them and since then all they've seen are YT highlights...but are now ridiculously over-excited by the 2 lads, consciously choosing to ignore their weaknesses. Same goes for Tosin tbh. That ain't a diss by the way, I totally get that as a fanbase, we've been so sick of the Diers & Sanchezes, we're more than entitled to feeling damn gooooooood about them being replaced. But as far as Taps, Micky Pond & Toss are concerned, I still think we need to manage our expectations...none are world class (yet) and my point is, seen as we were so utterly shite at defending last season, a world class operator is what we need. Knowing that Romero can't be relied upon between his injuries, suspensions, trips to Argentina etc.

But yeah, world class doesn’t come cheap. Unless you're getting someone like ancient Sergio Ramos on a free or a wantaway, injury-plagued Laporte for say 40mil.

Not sure why. Romero isnt untouchable, was poor last season and misses a lot of games for various reasons. I think he needs a kick up the arse some serious competition would bring.

All of them need to be playing games though. We have one game a week. We can't just be chopping and changing our back line.

Combined, those two would be 80m+... Not sure we're going to be bringing in that amount of centre back talent with the idea of not playing our 40m centre back already here.

If we were in Europe, yes. I'd understand. But our squad is bloated enough as it is. We currently have 6 centre backs on the books..

Watched three games the last week, haven't seen anything of him beyond that really. Rapid, cleans up situations well. Zero concerns about him in possession, he's quality at passing and carrying. Tbh, he looks very high level in that regard. Just watching him I'd imagine he'd be our best LB. This and the pace are exciting. Not really dominant in the air and yet to see that his defensive instincts are of the highest level, but obviously withholding judgement on the latter having not seen a huge amount and him just turning 22. Looks well worth 30m to me tbh, but he really needs to learn how to position his 6'4 frame in such a way that he can nod away the odd corner kick.

Tapsoba, VDV and Tosin are all interesting players of the right profile but I think we will only sign one. Seems like Lenglet is in the mix, so if we are playing a back 4 we are only going to need four CBs.

Dier
Romero
Lenglet
VDV
Davies (for emergencies)

Any more than that is overkill. Of course the sensible thing would be to not buy a shit player like Lenglet and buy Tapsoba instead.
Ange or no Ange, that defence concedes 55-65 goals next season

The pace aspect is exciting. Feels like we’ve lacked some elite level pace at the back for a while. Obviously pace isn’t everything, but it’s nice to have someone who can afford to make mistakes but still deal with situations.

What about Tapsoba, it’s a bit overly simplistic but who would you have down as the better centre back at the moment/ who has the higher ceiling?
