i'd be worried about selling hojbjerg, as i dont fully trust the club in replacing him with someone better. and with bentancur being out till around december it seems risky. I dont particularly rate skippy, and Sarr is such a raw unknown stil only 20 years old. He probably needs one more season to devlop as Caicedo did before he stepped in and replaced Bissouma
i know hojbjerg seems hated on here, but he has proven to have quality in this league. Think he suffered badly under Conte last season as did nearly everyone else,

Skipp, Bissouma, Maddison, Benta, Sarr and even Deki at a push should be enough for a side not in Europe. We're crying about not giving youngsters a chance, yet now you're advocating we buy a player that could potentially block Sarr's progress, or bringing in someone from the academy. In a throwaway rebuilding year, no less.

Makes zero sense.
So why sign anyone? I'm dubious about the quality of our 19/20 year old youngsters. Devine looks good but needs regular football on loan. Is Sarr creative, can he score 7 or 8 a season? Another that would probably benefit in a prem loan. I'm pretty sure Postecoglou will want someone if Hojbjerg goes (and he wants shot of Tanguy)

We conceded 63 goals - something has to be done. Would you like the club to do nothing and go with Forster + Sanchez/Dier next season?

All one can do is hope that the club has done its due diligence. Like with any player.

On paper it’s an immediate upgrade on Dier and Sanchez in several ways:

Both VDV and Tapsoba seem mobile, good on the ball, composed, and tactically versatile.
I'm not saying we shouldn't do anything, of course I ain't. We bloody need to do summit and get rid of the junk.

And yeah them two do look better, on paper and the eye test. All I'm saying is, I wanted surer things. But hey, I'll certainly back them newbies once they don the shirt.

Tanguy, Bissouma, Madders, Kulusexy

Rodrigo hasn't even returned yet

Happy Antonio Banderas GIF

Agree - I think it is so easy to write players off when they are used by coaches very specifically in very specific systems that don't suit them.

It feels like chance number 5 for both of those. Do we go back to whats patently failed over the last 4 years? If we get offers for those i'm pretty confident they'll be off. Postecoglou cleared out a ton of players when he first went to Celtic.
I agree tbh, but then he's the first progressive, possession based coach we've had since both came to the club. He might view them a lot differently than recent managers. Would be well up for replacing them fwiw, but I could see him finding he has use for either or both.

What he doesn't understand or at least fails to, is until you get to Aldereweireld, you have to go through 2/3 seasons of Chiriches and Fazio.

Going cheap in the long run is actually more expensive
What you fail to understand, is that every single expensive signing we have made, with no exception has been somewhere between dismal at worst and suspect at best.

Before Alderwiered there was modric, Berbatov, Bale, Keane, Defoe, Robinson, Palacios, Woodgate, Dawson, Lennon,

We have a considerably better track record with promising players than expensive ones.
When have we pushed the boat out and really spent and that player been an unequivocal success?
I bet the closest you can come is Romero. I think a lot of fans are massively on the fence on that one.

Bissouma, Bentancur, Maddison, N'dombele, Sarr, Skipp

6 players for 3 positions is perfectly fine.

You also have Lo Celso but like Ndombele there is attitude questions. If we find a system/environment to get the best out of them we are covered but it’s an if.

Have no idea if Ndombele or Lo Celso will make it with us but I can say defensive managers like Jose/Nuno/Conte had zero chance. Possession managers should in theory fit a lot more.

Don't forget we also have the option of playing Dier in MF.

:ange-hmm:
