Bissouma is absolutely a 6.

I'm pretty sure Skipp is a 6 too.

Sarr is the question, I think, as well as whether Kulu is a winger or is capable of tucking in as an 8.

I think in any event when everybody is fit it will be Bentancur Bissouma Maddison across the midfield.
Bissouma is not a 6. Too loose in possession. Not aware enough defensively. Not disciplined enough.
He’s a ball carrying, box to box number 8.

Skipp is probably closer to one in terms of his characteristics, but is he good enough on the ball? Very questionable.

We need to define first what expensive signing for Spurs is

Pre 2012 - 20m>
Pre 2017 - 30m>
Post 2017 - 40m>

If we go by those metric cheap signings significantly outnumber expensive ones by at least 3 to 20 since 2001.
I'd define it as above our average spending for that period.
As in £30m for Lamela in 2013 was a lot, but in 2023 it's a cheap signing. I would probably just about extend that amount out to Sissoko as well. 2017?
£11m for Berbatov was about the same as what we paid for Rebrov years before.
Rebrov was expensive, Berbatov was a bargain.

Think of it that way.

We'll sell Hojbjerg, he'll go on to do well at Atletico and the fans who were desperate to see him go will be crying that we sold him. Trippier all over again.

Lots of players who should be moved on before him, but if he wants out and the fee is good, then so be it.

Nah, it is the perfect time to sell him. He is 28, has been run into the ground since joining and has 2 years left on his contract. We arent going to be offering him a new one and so it is time to go. It is the right decision.

Wouldn’t work because none of them is a hybrid.

White/Saliba/Gabriel works because White is a hybrid

Ake/Dias/Akanji works because Ake is a hybrid (it’s also why Laporte found himself on the outs)

Peak Liverpool under Klopp: Gomez was the hybrid and you had VVD and Matip as the main two.

I’m a big Konate fan, but he reduces their options with versatility during the game.

Also see Ten Haag preferring Luke Shaw to Maguire.
Colwell is a hybrid who can play LB (there's no way Chelski will sell him to Spurs anyway)
Laporte was not ousted because Ake was a hybrid (Akanji, too, was a "hyrbid") but because he was too injury prone to ever settle into the EPL.

Interesting who we might go for if we spend a decent chunk on a Hojbjerg replacement. K Thuram, Caqueret, Mats Wieffer. Locatelli or Koopmeiners?

Edson Alvarez will be linked but he's overrated imo. Don't think his performance scales up to quality opposition. Gallagher would be alright as a high energy, pressing 8 who chips in with goals.. don't particularly rate him as a high level player tbh, think Palace was the perfect level for him and said as much at the time. Samardszic is talented, cheap, not sure he's ready for a big step right now though and more of a 10. Amrabat is good but he's nearly 27, good but not great, Hojbjerg'ish level. Quite like Dion Lopy who plays under Will Still at Reims, but he's young, needs another year or two playing every week.
Calhanoglu or Caqueret. Both at different times in their careers but both got a bit of of everything in their game as midfielders. I’d side more with the Turk because I’ve seen more of him and always liked what is saw. He’s in his prime at 28.
Caqueret on the other hand is a young lad but plays the game with so much maturity. Rarely loses possession but always looks to play forward first, gets close to people and has a great knack of winning the ball back and is capable of playing further forward.
If Hojbjerg goes any of these two are on a different level.

A shame but I guess he’s worth some money and on astronomical wages. His delivery was pretty good though

He was another one who suffered from the manager's you're not allowed to shoot policy. Had the chance to get a few goals but followed instructions instead. We didnt get to see the best of him unfortunately and probably fair enough to let him go. A lot of cash off the wage budget too of course.

Not sure about that second part. Lenglet always looked timid to me. He had good technique but it was like he didn't know how to use it.

Maybe that's just how we set up, lack of movement and instruction. But van de Ven strikes me as someone who backs himself on the ball and knows that sometimes, his passing aren't going to come off but he ain't going to shy away from it.
I’ve always like how Lenglet passes the ball. He always ups the tempo with his passes and was easily the best on the ball out of any of our defenders. Always looked to rap the ball into the strikers feet. 🤷‍♂️

I hope he is cancelling the contract without Spurs paying any of the wages on contract. I suspect we paid a hefty 'signing on' fee s he's not been a cheap 'free transfer' to pacify Conte

It will be a negotiation and then compromise before the contract is cancelled, I think the club will pay part of the final years salary, it just depends what percentage

Not claiming to be ITK, just sharing a funny story.

Good friend of mine is Hajduk fan and journalist. Told me that it wasn’t Romano or Di Marzio that scooped Perisic back to Hajduk, it was his local priest in a town called Omis.

Apparently included him in his sermon last Sunday 🤣
