Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

i know that Kane is held in such high regard by the spurs fans and rightly so, just a wonderful wonderful player, however, i get the feeling that Ange is secretly glad he has left as now he can mould the team exactly how he wants it without such a large presents in the dressing room and an even larger distraction when it comes to the media circus around such a player. The way Ange sets his team up he needs his number 9 to be a running and hassling machine up top and im not sure Kane is that guy.

Well timed Spurs Admin, well timed.

I do like this. However anyone can look menacing when they glance up, looking miserable, in slow motion to dramatic music.

Even Ollie Skip.

I think Postecoglou is a smart guy and a harder worker and should do alright. I just get tired of all the "Big Ange" talk. He may be a genius on the cutting edge of the next big thing or maybe he'll have some early success and then the league will adjust to him. Better still, maybe he'll come in and learn what he doesn't know and adjust on the way to building something that will last. But right now all the hype over a coach who has zero Premier League experience seems over the top. My big worry is I suspect he believes his own press clippings.
Oh ye of little faith 🙏🙏🙏

That's hard to get a read on. He may well be.
I think he firmly believes in his ability to get teams to play his way, to achieve buy-in from players and fans and ultimately to bring success.

However, in the embargoed section of his last press conference, he was honest in admitting that the way he goes about it is the only way he can do it, and if he was asked to do it a different way (i.e. defensive football) he wouldn't be good.

One thing that has been evident everywhere he's been is that the way of playing is remarkably consistent. Sure there may be certain tweaks to formation and tactics, but the underlying principles of being hyper aggressive with and without the ball and trying to dominate the game remain the same regardless of opposition, line-up or circumstances.

That'll be the fascinating thing, to see whether this approach can be effective at Premier League level. And we'd better hope so, because it's not going to change.

I love his pressers.
This season is the first that I’ve been looking forward to since Poch — even with the Kane saga.

Gotta say that watching Villa get destroyed today with a high line makes me very nervous. I’m not sure how everyone is going to fit in Ange ball but I want him to be given the full season regardless of results. Hoping that we can make this team in his image by getting rid of more of the deadwood and bringing in players that fit his profile between now and the end of the window.

Yeah, Newcastle away will be a scary fixture.

As someone who is a big proponent of Angeball, my number one question has always been how it stands up to the transition-heavy nature of the Premier League, where (unlike the SPL) even the lower half teams have the quality to punish you on the break.

I think there will be some teething issues and a good deal of one-on-one last ditch type defending early on, but my hope is that it becomes less of an issue as the players fully learn and adapt to the system, and are eventually able to exert more control over matches.

It might also be that Spurs will have early success as teams try to figure out how to counter what will be a much different system than what they see week to week. I think they'll overwhelm teams in the lower half of the table and occasionally struggle against the top of it.

His in game management should also be interesting for those reasons. If Spurs get behind 2-0 or ahead 2-0 I don't think the plan changes. I'd also think there will be a lot fewer draws. It will also be interesting to see if there is a point in games where he'll try to protect a late lead. We already know from the preseason that he won't let the players shut down for the last 2 minutes before a half. This season will be different but it won't be dull.

He has a good coaching staff with him and Mason is meant to be very good on out of possession stuff into transition. He’s just learned his trade from Poch, Jose and Conte.

Ange is well known for giving his coaches autonomy to make decisions about tactical stuff.

100%. this is probably Donna’s decision.

He was an absolute disgrace last season, not so much his form (which was shit) but as you say, the meek pathetic attempts to challenge for any form of loose ball.
He had a hernia which he was seemingly carrying for the majority of the season.

He has to take the blame for that of course, but:

Either he had it and he hid it so he could play.

Or he had it and the medical team missed it/thought it wasn't serious.

Or the medical team reported it and Conte wanted him playing anyway.

He's had surgery now. Let's see if that makes a difference. Everyone has to step up now.

Yeah fair and dropping into the middle third, with his back to goal killed him and compounded the hernia. He needs to build confidence and trust his pace, go at players again either with the ball or off the ball (centrally)
