What would have happened if we loaned scarlet or parrot to a Belgian side?
Would they have got 25 plus goals?
League One is a significantly lower level and Scarlett bagged 6, and the Championship is probably roughly equivalent, the competition as a whole lower though when you consider Gent in the Europa League, and he bagged 4.

It's not even close. It's not even close to close.

Orban put in one of the most impressive goalscoring performances in Europe last year and he did it in his first season ever in professional football, let alone his first time in Europe.

It's really nuts. There aren't comps for what he did.

The Premier League is the best league in the world and ruthless at finding and exposing players' weaknesses though, and is a serial striker-killer. Definitely risk involved.

If we rated Orban nearly as highly as some people on here do, we'd have paid the 30m already. And if the elite clubs and their scouts rated him that highly too, they'd have paid the 30m already. 30m to top PL clubs is nothing, teams like Chelsea pay 25m for some player who just got in to the squad for a Ligue 1 team.

Clearly lots of teams have doubts, if the 30m price-tag is even close to true.

Since Tanguy...

8) Solomon, Vinícius, Richarlison, Bale, Kulusevski, Gil, Véliz, Danjuma

5) Hojbjerg, Maddison, Bentancur, Sarr, Bissouma

7) Porro, Royal, Reguilon, Udogie, Doherty, Spence, Perisic

5) Micky Pond, Rodon, Phillips, Romero, Lenglet

4) Vicario, Forster, Gollini, Hart

Low standard of play and a tiny little sample size, hard to feel super confident and it’s a fair wedge of money.

You do kinda wonder where all the other suitors are

You’d hope we have been scouting him for longer than one season if we pull the trigger at a relatively high valuation.

I don’t think the situation with Veliz is comparable. Veliz has been in the eye of scouts for a while and we have seen his performance as a teenager in a competitive league.

This is where proper scouting and evaluation can make a big difference to a club in the long run.

Fantasy football every transfer window. We have care no less players that needs to f off first.

Get off the back of Levy, he keeping us afloat. We better instill f mentality to these kids, moment we score we lose all the f focus. The kids in academy we got haven't got their chance to chance.

Play the likes of Celso / ndombele / sessegnon in some cup games to advertise these player in the transfer windows. Flog them to Saudi

Start playing youth since spurs hasn't been making enough money, haven't seen us make profit except Kane and Wimmer. For us to pay over the odds for Connor or Micky and not earn a shit from Dele isn't sustainable

Agreed. Nothing i've seen of him screams 'amazing player' - looks like a fizz banger and not one I'd be desperate to sign. And I've seen as much of him as most people on here.

Everyone was desperate for Porro - £40m later and he looks like a quick, technical player, who isn't a natural defender and isn't very composed or intelligent.

I hope I'm wrong.

I've not seen a single minute of him. But my instincts are to doubt it when people who definitely don't watch much of the Belgian League are convinced this guy is some sort of future superstar & a must have but apparently only Spurs have noticed this and even then only if he's below 30m. Which these days is the price you pay for a striker who might get you 10 non penalty goals in the league.

None of which means he isn't great, but the doubts are obviously there as 100% all the elite clubs will have had scouts watching this guy.

I don't know why we don't just call Son and Richarlison the CF's for this season and go and spend some money on Eze and preferably another attacking option.

I’m not even joking if you put Haaland in there for Richy it wouldn’t have made much of a difference in the structure of our attack.

Son and Kulusevski being utterly unable to go past a man or go wide on their weak foot effectively makes them the most predictable and easy to defend pair of wingers in the league. They can’t go wide and that's incredibly easy for PL sides, we saw that with Brentford’s compact shape Sunday.

A top winger opens up our entire offense. A top striker who isn’t also an amazing playmaker and not dependent on service (aka not Kane) wouldn’t change as much as you’d think.

NFL is there to make no risk profits for their owners, this is reflected in the price. is that how you are measuring value of a competition?

I have no problem admitting an owner would rather have the high profit margin, normally subsidised low risk NFL club over a low profit, higher risk PL team. It doesn't say anything about the competition though.

The bosman ruling probably stopped european football going the same way and if the US version was tried over here it's very likely regulation would prevent it.
As I said, it is a direct reflection of the assessed value, meaning the assessed financial value, of the competitions. And that's all the people who control these clubs (FSG, ENIC, Clearlake, etc.) care about.

I very much welcome an explanation of how the Bosman ruling and European regulations will prevent the existence of a closed system ESL. Honestly interested in that potential justification - it's way more meaningful and potentially useful than "it will upset people".

I'm not gonna poo-poo Ange this early, so let's say I'm reserving judgement - because it's also entirely possible that the Aussie that went to Japan and then won the SPL with Celtic (who I could manage to the title) has a brand of football that just isn't going to work in the PL.

Still, enjoyed the match and hope for more of the same. Even calamity is a welcome improvement on the last few seasons of dire (and Dier) shit.

Mate, that's strange logic.

We paid 35 for Bissouma. Chelsea just paid 3 tmies that for Caicedo. Bissouma is better than Caicedo. Every day of the week. By your logic, there would have been plenty of clubs in for Bissouma at that price. There weren't and we got a bargain.

There are gems out there at reasonable prices. You just have to scout appropriately and be prepared to absorb some risk. Also, the Levy factor is real. We could easily miss out on Orban because Levy will only pay 29.99M and someone else offered 30.

I like Bissouma, a LOT. I also think he’s getting the usual hype-job on here. Caicedo is also fantastic, different players. Wouldn’t know who is definitively better personally.

But other clubs were interested in him. The dodgy rumours surrounding a court case were reportedly what put other teams off and we jumped at it.

There’s no such issues with Orban and imo if there was this no brainer wonder-talent people on here keep referring to them you’d have a much longer list of rivals for the signature. This guy isn’t under the radar, he’s scored 4 goals in a European game.
