Firstly, let's establish a consensus on this: Should the League Cup be treated to the same prestige as a good showing in a PL season(by good showing, I mean, top 4 or europe)

I would say yes but I can understand why the club wouldn’t from an economic perspective. It’s a shame but you don’t get much for winning the LC or FA Cup. I love the domestic cups, I would like us as a club to take them more seriously but I would also like football in general to take them more seriously as well and give better prize money or link them to European qualification.

Who said he was? Not me, but it's unrealistic to suggest that Ange has no input. In fact, his influence is at its strongest now - and he can be judged on the next 3 days - which was my original, not very controversial, point.

:ange-blow:

I reckon you need a good meal.

He wants more players. I’ve not watched his press conferences but I would put good money on him saying he would like to get more in. But he can’t just go and buy players.

We have to sell to buy.

Same as every year. We have a huge squad of players nobody else things are worth their current wages.

That’s Daniels job to shift them.

You’re really not getting are you.

If every manager plays the kids or the second string where do you think that comes from?

If every manager at spurs thinks the cups are a test ground and does everything to get into Europe via the league where do you think that comes from?

If Jose gets sacked days before playing a final what message does that send (not that I am his biggest fan)?

Of course Ange and the players could have done better but we will be in the same position with the next manager and the one after that just as we have been with most of our prior managers. Until we as a club make cup success a priority the cups will be treated as they are.

In the last 10 years we have been to 7 semi-finals across 3 competitions

It's a competitive match, as far as I'm concerned you need to go into every match with the intention to win if not there needs to be a damn good excuse if your entire intention is to effectively throw the match.

I want to win the league cup, but the truth is that teams don't care about it. They rotate all the time in these games.

Our squad depth just isn't good and the players picked had a hard time adjusting to the new style of play. It didn't even look like they knew what they were doing.

Is what it is, we have a decent starting XI but need to improve our depth. Unsurprisingly, it turns out one injury to the midfield is what it takes for a serious drop off in quality.

Everything we have seen and heard from Ange indicates he is not the sort to throw a match — “winning is important”, “attractive, attacking football that has fans on their feet for 90 mins is important”.

I can’t believe be would betray his convictions by intentionally losing. Or, for that matter, that he is so duplicitous.

We are not other teams though, why do people constantly compare us to what they do? They don't have a trophy dearth like us, they don't have the schedule that we have.

What did we actually learn about last night that we didn't know already?

Ridiculous to rest players this early in the season with no European football.

Especialy since a couple of friendlies were also cancelled. Should have used the game to help the first team gel.

Obviously his intention wasn't to lose :p, he said himself that his intention was to test his players out and give mins to other players in his squad.

No, but he will have learned that this group of players TOGETHER cannot be trusted to perform when he needs them. Individually they can probably pass the visual test when surround by better players.

The problem is, we all knew because we've seen it before from most of this lot.

And in experimenting he's learned the harshest way. He's not been experimenting with "learning about his players" in the league, which is quite telling.

When I say other teams, I don't even mean top 6 teams. Most teams just don't care about cup competitions anymore.

Aston Villa, who you would expect to care about winning a cup, put out a weakened team in the FA cup last season and lost to fucking Stevenage.

It's not about saying "See, they did it too". It's to point out that teams in general don't care and that includes us.

Would you consider say a big cash prize or maybe European qualification as the prize for the domestic cups as a way to make clubs care?

We've been in the CL or Europe almost every season. We dont need any 'angeball' just to get in europe. We havent won a trophy in 15 years. So winning a league cup has more value to most fans.
Yeah but fans truly mean very little to the owners. Winning a group stage game of the CL earns more money for the club than winning the EFL cup. It's a business now, and that's how it'll be run.
