That'd leave us with

No recognised #6 outside of Bissouma (Who leaves for the AFCON and could miss potentially 6 games, I say no recognised because Skipp has yet to actually play there under Ange in 7 games inc pre-season) and midfield options of Bissouma, Sarr, Maddison, Skipp, Bentancur, Lo Celso (2 of which disappear to Africa in January).

We would have to get someone in, in my opinion. I imagine we may go big for Connor Gallaghe

Yeah I’m sure a skillfull, intelligent player like eze who’s particularly strong at running at players with pace is going to be lost playing LW, just because it’s not exactly the same as LM. Pretty ridiculous to suggest there’s a significant
difference, especially as one managers 4-3-3 can be completely different to the next managers.

He’s played 1/3 of his career out wide, spending on quality players who can play more than one position is only beneficial to us.

If that's the case then you look towards Jan.

Between now and Jan we have about 17 matches with plenty of rest in between, anything more is overkill IMO
 
I can only assume if we sign any player, it will be tomorrow? I know the deadline runs out Friday early, but you would think the bulk of most of the English leagues transfers will go through tomorrow surely?

AFCON date is in January, Bentancur will be back by then and if he's not 100% you have the window to strengthen - Sarr and Bissouma could potentially miss up to 4 matches but is that enough to buy another? I'm not so sure...

PEH, Skipp or (in time) Bentancur, but yes I take your point......... And agree.

(In fairness to Dav... I don't think he was the "cause"..... Simply that without Biss running the show we just receeded back into being a shitty press-vulnerable mess.)

That's far more in line with what I suggested than what I replied to.... I just don't buy the fatalistic appraisal taken of last night that none of those players are capable back-ups.


To be brutally honest; it would take some epic scouting to uncover a 1-man-army CM like Biss who's keen to sit on our bench most weeks. However; no credible 3rd CB will have been a massive fail.

I'll say it for the umpteenth time.... No Europe is a fucking curse as far as acquiring the necessary squad depth is concerned.

There is absolutely no way Brighton who have Mitóma on about 10k a week and had Calceido on about 4K when he first signed are going to cover the best part of 270k per week without there being a full-scale mutiny there.
My guess is that they’re paying less than half and the rest is BS for Barca to save face.

Bentancur is a great pro - but he's had zero pre-season, coming back from one of the worst injuries a professional fooballer can get and coming into a brand new system.

Sure, we could use January to strengthen in midfield 5 months after we've weakened it but we could also use January to get rid of Hojbjerg and replace him if we wanted to.

Every fan does it, people get used to the idea of having a player play for them despite either not knowing who they are or have seen them play or not even thinking about that player initially playing for the club then when it doesn't happen it's melties galore.

The transfer window is fake, so much faux outrage over bullshit stories.
