I have absolutely no qualms with Davies as a defensive full back or backup centre back but the Udogie role is very specialised and I can’t see him ever fitting it

Davies can't do what Udogie did vs Fulham and play #10 receiving between the lines when Maddison dropped deep.
But he shouldn't have to vs Palace. Maddison was dropping into the inverted FB spot to receive because Fulham were putting 2 defenders in front of PEH to stop our buildup.
Palace will be more likely to just deep block and counter

Yep. Davies is a great squad player. Versatile, good defensively and hard working. But is not first 11 material.
