Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He's a definite upgrade on PEH and Skippy. In the current market 35 mill is probably the going rate for a squad/utlity CM. Our dreadful run of injuries and suspensions demonstrates the need for squad depth and utility players who can ably cover different positions. Our current options aren't great at that (e.g., Emerson's CB struggles, Hojbjerg's inability to play the CM6 role). Suspect we'd all be more excited if Gallagher was an unknown South American from the Italian or Portuguese leagues.

The only thing that gripes is we're helping the Chavs squirm out of FFP sanctions. But surely Chavs need to do more sales / creative accounting than flogging one HG player for 35 mill in order to balance the books?? They've literally just spunked a billion and no CL to show for it...

Knew that one was coming. As far as I recall, Richy was coming to us as a regular starter, which he was at Everton. It just didn't happen that way between his injuries, poor form, Conteball etc.

By Alasdair Gold:

Tottenham are NOT in negotiations with Chelsea for midfielder Conor Gallagher at this time, football.london understands

Attaboy Daniel - You don’t get a bargain and pull Boehley’s pants down by starting negotiations at the start of a transfer window 😆😆😆

Really hope we go for Gibbs-White this summer, impresses me every time I see him.

We need a rotation option for Maddison and while I like what I’ve seen from Lo Celso this season, he’s still not reliable injury wise. Plus the benefit of Gibbs-White being 4 years younger and homegrown, think he’s an elite player in the making. GLC still has transfer value and could likely partially finance the transfer.
I can't belive we gave them 50 million for a HG player....and it wasn't Gibbs-White. Remarkable stuff from the club.

If we’re apparently willing to pay 40/50 mill for that Chelsea rat why don’t we dump it at forest door for gibbs white instead? Immeasurably better player

Totally different position and they’d want a lot more than that, what a player was 5 years ago has changed. A 20-30m player is now 40-60m, a 40-60m player is 70-100m unless they have a very short contract like Bissouma.

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are willing to let Eric Dier leave on a free transfer in January.

We relayed a report from The Athletic last week, which claimed that Tottenham are listening to offers for Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ahead of January.

The outlet claimed that while the Dane’s preference is to join Juventus next month, the centre-back is more likely to depart when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Spurs do not want a transfer fee for Eric Dier
Football Insider have now asserted that Tottenham have told Dier to find a new club and have opted to let him leave on a free transfer after Ange Postecoglou made it clear that the 29-year-old is not part of his plans.

The outlet says that Hojbjerg and Hugo Lloris have also been asked to find new clubs, with Spurs also willing to let the Frenchman leave without a transfer fee. The report reveals that all three players have now instructed their representatives to find new clubs.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like Tottenham’s priority is to trim their wage bill to make room for new signings. That makes sense rather than waiting for Dier to run his contract down until the summer.

If the 29-year-old is available on a free transfer, there will likely be significant interest in his services over the next few weeks.

Phillips was a the best player playing as a #6 in a high pressing, high intensity side similar to how Ange plays.

That was also three seasons ago, he’s 28, has always had injury problems, and barely played for 2.5 seasons.

I’d take him on loan if we were able to sell Højbjerg and can’t get our first choice signing in during January, but I don’t really see value in him as long-term signing. I’d think we’d want someone younger and with a higher ceiling.

But if he’s fit he’d be a stylistic improvement over PEH backing up Bissouma.

1. 18 months left on Gallagher's contract, and shows no sign of signing another.

2 I've seen nobody else linked to Gallagher which surprises me - but maybe nobody else has money or perhaps more likely Gallagher only wants to join a top 6 club such as Spurs, ruling out potential bidders such as Palace.

3 Chelsea need to sell for FFP reasons - and Gallagher as club trained means 100% of fee counts as FFP profit.

Perhaps I don't rate Gallagher as highly as you but to me he does NOT look a £50m player (at least yet) so anything like £35m/£40m is probably about right, although might be 'toppy'.
Who gives a fuck whether he’s 40 or 50m you child?
