Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Afternoon everyone, hope you’re doing well. Here’s a 3 minute video detailing everything you need to know about Radu Dragusin for those interested. While there are obvious limitations to his game (which I’ve highlighted), I think he’ll be a great foil to the central defensive options already at the club. Really looking forward to seeing how he gets on in the Prem. As always, feel free to ask me any questions you may have, cheers!

How many full games did you watch when you researched him mate?

Show me a trophy winning club that left the squad with 2 adequate CBs for the first half of the season.

Let's be honest, it might have happened and early transfers for a 3rd CB in January may have happened but neither are relevant because they aren't this club and this squad.

Nobody is saying it's easy to get deals done but the club is looking like it's not in any rush to get this one done, depsite all the noise about getting it done early in January, or through the door this week.

How incredibly arbitrary lmao, I've never known clubs who won trophies straight away to complete full rebuilds in 1 window but I can name you clubs who went on to win or do well after their squads initially had holes in it.

It's entirely relevant because we shop in the same market as those clubs and we are buying from the same clubs who weren't willing to let their assets go.

No, that's just your negative perception, you don't know where the deal is? All we can take is what we here from journos - Fab said the clubs are agreeing the structure of the deal - how is that not looking like the club is in a rush to get the deal done? It's the 4th (fourth) of January today mate...

All this for a 3rd choice CB that no-one's ever watched.

in fact how many deals are actually done early in the window in Jan is another question?

Liverpool agreed a deal to sign Van Dijk on 27th of December.

Considering the situation we currently have at CB, not acting in a similarly urgent manner shows the difference in a nutshell between the way the two clubs are run.

Not the point.

As a club you set the tone and priorities with your actions.

The club left the squad without a new player for that 3rd CB spot since the summer. The coaching staff understood the financial constraints and some players stepped up to adapt their roles when needed. But it still undoubtedly cost us points.

Would it have been easy to get a deal done for a CB in time to arrive early enough to play vs Burnley? No, of course not but winning trophies is not easy. You need to do things that are outside the norm sometimes i.e., players stepping up to play out of position, coaches stepping up to adapt the plan, and club officials stepping up to get deals done early.

2 of those 3 it looks like we can rely on when it comes to hunting Trophies.
My brother, them Levy fanatics managed to find ways to defend him when we went 18 months without a single signing...at a time when just 2 or 3 wise picks may well have landed us that bloody trophy.

And I tell you, they'd still back him if we didn't sign anybody this month, despite us really needing to, big man Ange himself asking (begging) for it...

Heck, any of us with half a brain could write up that list of lame ass excuses:

- "The market is always challenging in January"
- "The selling club/player/agents screwed us"
- "Someone came in with a higher (read proper) bid"
- "We don't have City/Pool/Chavs money"
- "Player wanted CL footy/guaranteed starter..."
- "Our squad is too big, we needed to shift X before but he wouldn't leave"
- "Fucking tea lady and her payrise"
- "Wait til our new stadium becomes the gamechanger"
Fuck the #WeTried brigade! Same old shit and yet they refuse to learn zilch.

Did we need Radu here 1st or 2nd Jan? Fuck yeah. Was it totally doable? Ditto. Is the board (partly) to blame for it's not yet been done? Undeniably...like it or not, Shadz/LP/Scottish Yid etc.

The same club who had agreed deals for Caicedo and Lavia this Summer who both went to Chelsea in the end, yeah imagine the meltdown in here if that happened, what an example

Ironic you bought that up because Southampton reported Liverpool for tapping him up, they were after him in the Summer and missed out on him (again imagine the meltdown if that happened to us) so it got pushed to Jan

Nice try though.

Your posts aren't helpful, they're just usual boring Levy lovers blah blah nonsense, honestly every window...boring.

There's an active ENIC thread on here so feel free to go in there and yell into the void about this, no-one cares man.

You asked what deals get done early, I give you an answer, and predictably you offer a nonsense retort consisting of waffle and deflection.

Debating with you is pointless.

NICELY DONE.

let's all just leave it here.

If a big club really wants a deal done early in January, it can get it done. Even if that results in a slight overpay.

Ange is our coach, he knows what goes on behind the scenes and how deals are done. Yet he came out in the media and said he wants deals done early. He said that because he's knows what Levy is like, a man addicted to hard negotiations, so he can enhance his reputation as some kind of tough arse and he'll be happy to take this to end of the window if need be at Ange's expense.

Thing is, it ain't even about Jan 1st, 4th or 31st. We should never ever have started the season with Rom & Micky as our only starting CB options, especially knowing Cuti's love of a red card, that VdV was brand new to the PL...

I don't care that Big Ben was seen (and has shown) to be an able deputy, that Emerson could help out if the shit hit the fan, that Dier & his big salary was still on the books, that we had two promising English kids on the roster.

Not getting that other starter quality CB was criminal...and that's on Levy & his cronies. Fact. Period. And it's cost us big points already. Definitely legit to wonder whether we'd be top and a few pts clear had we had adequate cover when Rom & Micky went out.

Zero excuse then, zero excuse now...the coffers are friggin full...9th richest club in the world and all.

Because you don't use any damn context whatsoever. 🤦‍♂️

You can't give me an example and fail to see the irony of what you've just said...if Liverpool are the bastions of transfer activity and negotiating you can't ignore the times when they've messed up, that same transfer you're pointing out should have happened in the Summer but it didn't hence why they were able to take more time negotiating and strike a deal before the Jan TW opened.

The difference is that happened to us, you and all the moaners in here would be saying that we didn't back the manager in the Summer

I'm not even saying that to put them down because I think they handle their business really well but the point is shit happens in transfer windows which are sometimes on the club but often out of the club's control, like it has for Liverpool, like it has for City, like it has for us.

This is a tired and old narrative which I don't believe but if that is indeed the case and Levy was sticking his nose in then looking at our business over the last few windows why is that a bad thing?
I think you will see that I was largely positive at the start of the last summer window . We then end up leaving ourselves short at CB which everyone highlighted , I believe that alone has cost us several points . You will say Ange wanted Sanchez out, I will argue not without another incoming . So he undid some of the good work about which you are talking . He cannot help himself, he believes he is smarter than everyone else when all the evidence is to the contrary.

As I said your opinion is no better substantiated than those of us who want him out

As sales slowed and other retailers abandoned the scheme, Green Shield Stamp catalogue shops began to offer part stamp-redemption and part cash for the goods in their catalogue. The proportion of cash accepted was slowly increased until the goods could be purchased, outright, without the need for any stamps. With this groundwork laid, the catalogue stores, warehouses and vehicle fleet were re-branded Argos in July 1973 - I didn't know this though 🤔
You stole.my avatar. Carded 🤣

You aren't really making a point here mate.

the question is if it's possible or been done before and TomHotspur TomHotspur provided a pretty fucking good example. That transfer was possibly even more relevant because like our 3rd CB search, they had needed it done the summer before.

Nobody said it's easy to do. Just that it can be done.

We sold Sanchez after the window shut though.

I've literally provided the reason why it was an easier deal to do in Jan, if you want to ignore it then that's up to you, context is important.
