Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Right and that's why the VVD deal is the perfect comparison. Getting that deal done before Jan opened wasn't easy either and it was the difference between them overtaking us and becoming a winning club whilst we got left behind.

Winning isn't easy. It requires things that aren't easy to do.
Clearly in that situation it was possible, as it happened. In other situations, it simply might not be possible.

Joining Spurs is like making love to a beautiful...woman.

What an incredible memory you have mate

There's an active ENIC thread on here so feel free to go in there and yell into the void about this, no-one cares man

I think you're being a tad disingenuous there, old boy.
A lot of us do care. And a lot of us see the relevance to THIS THREAD.

Let's not have a repeat of the silly shenanigans of last summer where a handful of posters, led by your good self, tried to dictate what could and couldn't be discussed regarding our transfer strategy. Levy, ENIC, Ange, Munn, whoever.....it's all undeniably intertwined

Indeed so the difference here is overpay for Dragusin who is effectively a 3rd choice CB before the window opened so he's ready for the Burnley match or sign him shortly after so he's ready for the Utd match, that's the literal difference here.

If you think that's the difference between winning and losing then you should perhaps re-evaluate how you follow football.

I mean it's highly relevant if you're going to use the argument that we are short in the CB area.

2 things can be true by the way, we definitely needed another CB in for the Summer but we could have definitely done with keeping Sanchez at the club.
His days at Spurs were numbered after being mocked and booed (almost to tears) at several games. His confident was gone.
And it's a shame how some of those disgusting boo-boys treated one of their "own" players.

Us being the 5 people that moan for the same of moaning about the same things over and over again, Levy lovers, ENIC bot, ENIC shill yeah okay if you care about that then you should care in the thread designed for it.

We're here to talk about transfers :sonpoint:

It wasn't, you just have a habit of ignoring reality as well as context.

Ange was happy to leave Davinson, a player he didn't sign and had never managed before as 3rd choice CB in pre-season so that is enough evidence for you to say that he should have been happy to keep him and use him for the season.

Remember the conversation was about being short at CB even if Davinson stayed because the manager clearly saw it like Dier as both needing replacing.

You somehow claim to know better than the manager which players should or shouldn't have been useful to him based on a couple of months of pre-season.

Have a nice day.

Did we need Radu here 1st or 2nd Jan? Fuck yeah. Was it totally doable? Ditto. Is the board (partly) to blame for it's not yet been done? Undeniably...like it or not, Shadz/LP/Scottish Yid etc.
how do you know this? It’s not fifa. A lot goes into a transfer!! It’ll get done. People who think transfers are easy and take no time to get done and not t etc are so naive

Liverpool agreed a deal to sign Van Dijk on 27th of December.

Considering the situation we currently have at CB, not acting in a similarly urgent manner shows the difference in a nutshell between the way the two clubs are run.
that one just took the 6 months and some illegal tapping up to get done.

No arguing that Liverpool are a better run club in terms of recruitment than we are by a long stretch, but to be fair, on this deal, the reason it got completed late December ready for the January window was that they’ve made a ball up of doing the deal in the summer previously.

You are assuming he's signed in time for the UTD match.

We will most likely play 4 FBs vs Burnley. Still possible to win but not as good as having a 3rd CB in on the 1st and having him train for the week to play.

The tradeoff is the overpay vs the risk of going out in the FA Cup. We are still favourites to win the game but that is undeniably the tradeoff or we wouldn't be bothered about doing it early at all.

You’re forgetting all the drama that went on during the prior summer where Pool were accused of tapping him up.

Pool were embarrassed and forced to pay a world record fee for a CB.
Yeah ‘course mate, Im sure their embarrassment waned significantly when van Dijk went on to be vital in them winning every trophy there is to win. :ange-bored2:

Also, were they ever actually charged with “tapping him up” or was it just Saints getting their nickers in a twist because Liverpool were literally signing all their players at the time and they just go sick of them?

The point that they couldn’t get it done is summer is valid, but let’s be frank, if we were close to signing a player of Van Dijks level in a summer window and didn’t get it done, would we continue to pursue it and ultimately get it concluded before the January window even opened? Would we fuck.

Clearly in that situation it was possible, as it happened. In other situations, it simply might not be possible.

Sure.

I guess the complaint for a lot of people is that it seems to be not possible more often for this club than it's rivals that have consistently got over the line and won things.

Until they shake that, the lack of patience and willing to consider all the context is understandable
