Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Some BIG names went to Prem clubs in those first 4 days hey?

Hang on...
Yeah, if you go through the archives back to 2018 major PL transfers in the first week of January are basically unprecedented. Pulisic to the Chavs (that turned out well), that's about it.

I know everyone expected a VvD style transfer here, but they bowled Southampton over with a world record fee for a defender and a £180k/pw contract. Worked out because he was mustard, but we're not making that sort of offer (and shouldn't) for Dragusin.

Even some footballers looked like that back then

WTaF posessed men to have the same hair as women from Dallas and Dynasty?
There are clothes and styles these days that will look pathetic in 20-30 years too.

"Manbag" I'm looking at you.

Pulisic was a deal done literally months before the window to avoid the impending trf ban they had.

Afternoon everyone, hope you’re doing well. Here’s a 3 minute video detailing everything you need to know about Radu Dragusin for those interested. While there are obvious limitations to his game (which I’ve highlighted), I think he’ll be a great foil to the central defensive options already at the club. Really looking forward to seeing how he gets on in the Prem. As always, feel free to ask me any questions you may have, cheers!

This guy just looked so deeply into my soul like no other human ever has.

I think I need an exorcism

And then overtook us and went on a winning spree.
That's a different issue. I agree that identifying the right man and getting him is key to success, rather than the utter wanktics (Spurs tactics) we've deployed over the last 20 years.
We have been the dictionary definition of "buy cheap. buy twice" for so long it's become the standard now.

Until recently though, I would have been concerned we'd spend the big bucks and still end up with a turd.

Ange was happy to leave Davinson, a player he didn't sign and had never managed before as 3rd choice CB in pre-season so that is enough evidence for you to say that he should have been happy to keep him and use him for the season.

Remember the conversation was about being short at CB even if Davinson stayed because the manager clearly saw it like Dier as both needing replacing.

You somehow claim to know better than the manager which players should or shouldn't have been useful to him based on a couple of months of pre-season.

Have a nice day.

Of course he was happy to let him leave but I offered suggestions why that was the case in the very same post which you ignored because you read what you wanted to leave like a giddy little school girl (read the post again)

What we do know is that Ange used Sanchez more than Dier in pre season and was our best player against Barcelona

He also came off the bench against Brentford after Romero got injured

He also played against Fulham in the cup which tells you he was 3rd choice and would have most probably used him over Emerson and Davies.

We will know tomorrow night if the Dragusin deal will happen. Genoa play tomorrow and if he plays for them then does that mean it’s highly unlikely he signs? Genoa wouldn’t risk £25 million and play him.

Sure.

I guess the complaint for a lot of people is that it seems to be not possible more often for this club than it's rivals that have consistently got over the line and won things.

Until they shake that, the lack of patience and willing to consider all the context is understandable
I don't think that is true at all though - hardly any clubs get transfers done early, and indeed many of our big rivals have the same issue of transfers appearing to 'drag on', sometimes not getting done until several windows later, or even not at all. Someone earlier mentioned Caicedo > Liverpool - eventualities of that nature are far more common than quick and easy transfers, and that's for all clubs, not just us. Do you ever read what the fans of the biggest other clubs are saying? Exactly the same as here - many saying 'just get it done', others advising that it just isn't that simple in most cases.

Your ending of '...and won things' is a completely different point. Yes, other clubs have won things and we haven't, and that has been discussed to death - but that's definitely not because they get all their big signings done in the first few days of the transfer window, as any quick glance at previous transfer windows will confirm. Most transfers don't happen early, and that's true of all clubs.

As for "the lack of patience and willing to consider all the context is understandable" - yes I know that is true for the idiots, but those with a bit more intelligence (of which I consider you one) should be able to remain grounded and keep focussed on that context, as that's the only way to maintain a sensible opinion.

Us being the 5 people that moan for the same of moaning about the same things over and over again, Levy lovers, ENIC bot, ENIC shill yeah okay if you care about that then you should care in the thread designed for it.We're here to talk about transfers :sonpoint:

With which Levy plays an undeniably integral part......

This is interesting though. I just searched for the word 'Levy' in this thread only

And guess which poster is the most prominent?.............

YOU :sonlol:

I'm trying to reconcile both sides into some middle-ground here - what about this:

- we were all disappointed not to get another CB last summer. We appreciate that not everything is always possible, but it was disappointing nonetheless, and most on here would agree the club should have done more to make that happen. Perhaps we thought Phillips or Dorrington would be the answer, and perhaps the club did too, but if so and it didn't pan out that way, then that must be on the club.

- however we have also been hit by incredibly bad luck, having suspensions and long term injuries to both of our starting two, and at the same time, meaning that any errors or additional risks of not buying another CB were made to kick us as hard as possible. The bad luck has turned any such 'error' into a very difficult situation (I won't say disaster because we're actually still doing well), and a much bigger deal than it would have been if they'd both stayed fit.

Is that a fair summary?

To me, it is.

As it is said on financial market - only when the pool is drained, it is clearly visible who is swimming naked.
Club did jump into pool naked, but it needed the draining of the pool (injuries and suspension) to actually bring it to clear daylight.

You are assuming he's signed in time for the UTD match.

We will most likely play 4 FBs vs Burnley. Still possible to win but not as good as having a 3rd CB in on the 1st and having him train for the week to play.

The tradeoff is the overpay vs the risk of going out in the FA Cup. We are still favourites to win the game but that is undeniably the tradeoff or we wouldn't be bothered about doing it early at all.

So until we get close to the Utd then all your protestations are futile.

VDV is apparently back for the Burnley match as well

Like I said before Dragusin won't be the difference between beating Burnley or not, you're just moaning for the sake of moaning.

What cost us points is the match v Chelsea where we lost - Van de Ven, Romero, Maddison and Udogie for varying lengths of time....... followed next match by a GBH tackle taking Bentancur out.

I've never seen 4 players taken out in one match or 5 players taken out in 2 matches before ! Have you ?

Exactly...

This was one-off craze which was SIGNIFICANTLY amplified by idiotic decisions of our players as well, as 2 out of 5 were red cards.

I absolutely believe if it would have only been about losing Micky and Madders to injury - we would have won the game. And having Romero for next 3 games would have helped a lot as well. So players did their active part in worsening this situation.

Agree- club could have and should have done more, but if in next game Richie would break Kulu's leg - would that be down to club poor planning or we should have a glance at Richie as well :D ?

Pulisic was a deal done literally months before the window to avoid the impending trf ban they had.
Which is very rare, of course. The VvD transfer was similarly pre-negotiated.

I still think we're going to get a CB in in short order, but we're on the 4th day of the month and people are acting as if we're on the 4th week. Getting one in before Burnley always seemed unrealistic to me.

You know, in recent decades, having seen retro clothing from the 70's and 80's make a bit of a comeback at times, I always thought to myself, well that definitely won't happen with 90's gear, that was shit...

Then what happened?

Guarantee the daft shit from today will come back around in 20 years time.
