One frustrating thing is that unless Maddison is back, he'll have the same issues our attack currently has and that's no real clear cut chances created for him.

Werner strikes me as, like Son, someone who works better on instinct than when he has time to think. Quicker we get Maddison back, the better we'll and the rest of our offence will be.

God I hope Madders is back for United.

We need a player who gets goals and assists.
He will rarely get either.
Like I said, I'm not a Richarlison fan, but his upturn in form puts him comfortably ahead of Werner. Chelsea were mugs to spend what they did. He had probably 2 decent seasons in a weak Bundesliga. He hasn't even got back to close to that level in the 2 seasons he's been back and is now surplus to requirements.

Put a sock in it

For me, I'm deeply unimpressed with this and massively underwhelmed. If other clubs had made this loan we'd be taking the piss. Thankfully it's just a loan. Another 'body' I guess worst way.
It's a no risk, high reward move. Unlike Ighalo etc. who were loaned to big clubs as a stop gap and were clearly never good enough, Werner was tearing Real Madrid apart in the Champions League Semi-Final even when he was low on confidence, whether we like it or not.
Fucking Real Madrid got a Newcastle reject this summer and he's doing ok there, and Werner is 10x the player Joselu would ever want to be. Same with Bayern and Choupo-Moting.

One important question: can Werner cross when playing wide? Im really hope its not another inverted winger thing… hopefully good cover for Richy as well

Not every signing has to be marquee. The manager has said this and they only come in if they fit the system he plays. If you think we are going to go and spend £70 million on a striker then you are nuts.
Werner has proved to be a top player and I won’t be surprised if he kicks on under Ange. He fits the bill for how Ange wants his strikers to play. Richy gets through on a one on one and can’t get away from defenders. This guy will and if he can find his scoring form then the club and Ange have pulled off a master stroke. Only time will tell but let’s give the guy a chance if it happens.

Ange has said no player comes in without his approval.

That doesn’t mean he wants him imo. I guess the guys offered him some options and you’d think Werner is pretty low down the list of ones he’d approve coming in
I agree in as much as you say TM might not have been on any wish list drawn up by AP but I cannot envisage any scenario whereby Ange would give the nod to any incoming player unless he wanted him.

All the above is of course only relevant based on the veracity of said article.(s)

Maybe they know better than you about who would be a good fit for Ange’s system.

Just saying.

Also very possible if not probable that we’re going for a target that’s not attainable til the summer and Werner represents a decent stop gap.

Ange said yes. That’s enough.
Look, I hope he fulfils the potential he had 7 odd years ago here, but he’s been a woefully average player for years now, both at Chelsea and on his return to Leipzig, and Ange is not a miracle worker.

He was probably brought in as a real emergency cover for Son while at the Asia Cup, but considering we actually need proper reinforcements up top, it just seems like another pointless Danjuma style transfer.

I think (just an opinion) we have longer term targets that aren’t available until the summer.

In the meantime, I’ll support Werner and hope he provides decent cover. He may do, he may not, but good luck to him.

If he stinks up the place, we simply send him back.

There's no downside. I assume our principle target is for the Summer. It's a good stop gap.

I'd far rather this approach than wasting money on a permanent dud in the Jan window.

There aren't any negatives to this. We're bringing someone in on loan and presumably, have only got to pay his salary.

He offers something different to Richarlison, pace and agility and even if he doesn't score, his pace will stretch defences creating chances for our other players to do so. If he flops, he goes back to Germany and we bring in a forward in the summer when the market is more favourable.

None of us know how he'll get on, maybe he'll be shit, maybe Ange and the style we play will suit him down to the ground.

Be positive!

I don't really know what people expected in the attacking positions this Jan tbh. I thought we'd maybe get Jota on loan at a push and that's that.

Werner has the attributes to be a huge success in an Ange system. I've always maintained we are in desperate need of a wide forward type that can play up top (which Jota is NOT and Werner is).

Werner and CB this window exceeds my expectations. I stick it on Levy often but he's backed Ange so far for sure if he completes those deals.

A stop gap that actually might do very very well. I said after the game last night we lack pace at centre forward when Sonny is away and I don’t just mean 40 yard sprints in behind but those quick 5 yard sprints that gives a striker a yard to get a strike away. Richy can’t offer that. Deki can’t offer that. Johnson is the slowest quick player I’ve seen so getting a nippy sharp striker in might be genius.

How’s it gone since going back to RB?

Why are they prepared to let him go?
First season back he got 16 goals in 40 games across all comps...that's not a bad return, especially as he also assisted a few (3 in the Bundesliga). This season he's only played 8 times in the league, of which 2 were starts, and his average GT isn't even a half hour. Still bagged a couple goals.

It's been tough for him cause he's missed a lot of games through injuries them past 2 years...done his back, ankle, adductors...also had Covid & subsequent shockwaves.

But mainly, they've signed that Xavi Simons kid on loan from PSG and as he's a left-sided AM/winger, well he's taken Werner's minutes. Up top they've also signed Openda and that Sesko lad United & Chavs are said to be after...they've both been playing, scoring (for fun in Openda's case) so tough to drop them. Poulsen gets more mins than Werner as a sub, even Forsberg got more gametime before he left.

Think the lad has just been a bit unlucky, a move to us could do him some good. But his injury record, more than his lacks of goals & confidence, is the major concern...

Yep.

The reason Richie is always offside is because he knows he doesn't have that acceleration over 5-10 yards to get away from defenders. He can only fashion a clear chance when he plays perfectly on the line.

This is a good move. It will help the team.

There's always gonna be outrage because he was crap at Chelsea but people aren't offering other realistic alternatives which makes me think that people are doing their usual keyboard cat routines.
