Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

My favourite part about a transfer like this is that the ITKs hadn’t said a word!

I think it’s needed as well. Obviously, it would be nice if Werner could score a few, but watching our CF yesterday made the need for someone else here pretty obvious I think.

What about what Totti posted is going to make 10 goals in almost 60 pl appearances for a striker sound good?

It’s a stop-gap. Considering how his career has been post Chelsea I have incredibly low expectations.
we don't actually need a consistent goalscorer this window. Of course it would be nice but it absolutely isn't vital. Have a look at out rivals:

Liverpool are top with Salah as a consistent goalscorer and everyone else chipping in now and again.

Woolwich don't even have a consistent goalscorer and were top of the league a week or so ago.

City have Haaland with Alvarez and Co helping out now and again.

Villa have Watkins with Douglas Luiz helping out.

We have Sonny who is a reliable goalscorer and now have Richi finding his groove and Johnson who you'd hope will eventually chip in goals wise. Besides that we have Gil who is a non entity, Perisic who is injured and Solomon who is more so a creator.

It's vital that we find another option that can chip in as well as contribute massively to the way we play. Werner is extremely fast and contributes massively to the press.

ITK and media not getting a sniff until it’s done at least tells you other clubs were in the race and we had to keep it quiet

I'm not even sure what backing a manager means anymore, at first I thought it was giving the manager whoever he wants but when Man Utd did that with Ten Hag it was still seen as a failure by the board for not having a proper structure in place to prevent the manager from making bad signings.

Our structure is much better than Utd which is why their signings haven't worked out, people don't realise this though and think that the £400m that's been spent under Ten Haag is significant backing. 😆

I must be more confident in our recruitment structure than others, I don't really look at our signings with fear nowadays but look forward to see what they can do, every signing won't be a hit of course but we are in a much better place than the days of Ndombele, Nkoudou and Co under Hitchin where you'd base the success of our transfers on hope rather than expectation.

Smart deal.

If he’s worth paying the reported 30m option then he’s done an amazing job and we’ve picked up a good player.

Would love to see us pick up one of these random Scandinavian players (nusa? Bardhelj?) and lower them stay at their clubs for the rest of the season to get game time.

Signing a player on an option to buy is a very good plan if you are not 100% sure of the player's ability to hack PL - and given Werner couldn't as a young man, its a pragmatic solution.

Ange comes across as a forceful character who knows what he wants, and it would not surprise me if he likes the player but is equally unsure if he can play PL football, so the solution of a loan with an option is excellent.

There are very few 'sure thing' forwards available atm, and even less during January. so the shortlist probably isn't that long.
Yes, what you're saying makes sense, sure it does.

But is it the sort of gamble we should be making now, all things considered?...like our league position, opp to bag a trophy (at friggin last), the fact we're a very wealthy entity that could easily afford a 'surer' signing. I think that's what our friend Tottenham Massive Tottenham Massive was saying, but so much easier to shoot him down for his previous anti-Levy posts (not saying you did).

Do I like the Timo thing? Yes, could do far worse - especially in Jan - and if lady luck is on our side, bet he could prove a pretty shrewd move. But are there big questions marks due to failure at Chelsea & recent injury records? You bet. Would I have liked to see our great club, being mega wealthy and in a great position in the league, go bigger and bolder? Sure...and I ain't one to think that the price tag determines how good a player actually is (see Vicario vs Raya).

No idea if true , but he seems an Ange type player . I was disgusted with Saha as he was made of glass , this just seems possibly a shrewd deal . Hope I don’t have eat these words in about a month
Nothing to eat, you're not exactly nailing your colours to the mast.

I agree with you, it does look like it could end up a very shrewd deal if it works out. Like I posted earlier, it's an intriguing one.
