I sort of get this move for the type of player. Centre forward in Ange's team isn't expected to be heavily involved in the play, and is to concentrate on making short sharp bursts in and around the box and in behind to be on the end of stuff.

That is Werner, his game is mostly about movement and he has pace. If you look at the couple of chances Richarlison fluffed last night for instance, half the problem was that he couldn't run away from the defenders which made things much tougher. TW might be no more reliable a finisher, but I'd expect that if he is given a pass in behind they're not getting back at him.

On the flip side though, this is yet another "off the ball runner" type. Like Son. Like Johnson. Would be nice at some point to get a forward/winger who likes and can do something with the ball at his feet, with a game primarily about being able to dribble or go past somebody. And no, I don't count Gil or Solomon.

Really odd. If we were going for a restoration project, personally I’d much rather take a punt (and I know it would’ve been a gamble) on someone like Sancho or Ekitike. Loans with options for 6 months and we get wide players who can also dribble (Ekitike can also play 9).

What I would say is, from a scouting and analytics point of view, Werner is as close Son in profile as you could possibly find. Maybe that’s where this has come from.

A player of this profile coming from the left will be a game changer for us. I expect us to go for this profile in the summer. Werner is just a stopgap, I’m sure of it.
TBH I'd like that type of option on either flank. What I would say though is that the way we play the left side seems to be quite settled, and maybe not as conducive to the pure winger type. Maddison often plays in the left half-space feeding passes for the runner, you have Udogie underlapping frequently to take the space, etc. Really it's to the right flank where we often switch the play and have the man left 1vs1 with the opposition. We all know Kulu has something about his game and is a talented player, but he doesn't make anywhere near enough hay from these situations and it's something a ruthless team quite possibly has to look at.

we don't actually need a consistent goalscorer this window. Of course it would be nice but it absolutely isn't vital. Have a look at out rivals:

Liverpool are top with Salah as a consistent goalscorer and everyone else chipping in now and again.

Woolwich don't even have a consistent goalscorer and were top of the league a week or so ago.

City have Haaland with Alvarez and Co helping out now and again.

Villa have Watkins with Douglas Luiz helping out.

We have Sonny who is a reliable goalscorer and now have Richi finding his groove and Johnson who you'd hope will eventually chip in goals wise. Besides that we have Gil who is a non entity, Perisic who is injured and Solomon who is more so a creator.

It's vital that we find another option that can chip in as well as contribute massively to the way we play. Werner is extremely fast and contributes massively to the press.
Well put.

Say he comes in and scores 4 or 5, which isn't that outlandish a prediction considering his pedigree.

I can see Sonny bag 5-8 before the season's out. Richy could & should get another 2 or 3. Brennan and Kulu, I'm rather confident, will add 4-6 between the two of them. Let's not forget Madders...if/when he reaches peak form upon his return, he could well go & score us 4 or 5, on top of the awesome assists he's gonna gift his teammates.

Add to that the odd goal from Pedro, Gio, Udo, Roddy...

And who's to say we don't bring in another attacking option should we manage to get rid of some of our deadwood this window.

Heck, sign Radu and with that monstruous size and physicality of his, he'd be proper danger on each & every set piece.

I don’t know how to feel about Werner
I am ultimately underwhelmed at the idea of a chavs reject and someone who RB clearly don't rate.

But.

If Ange wants him, then his slate is clean and since it's only 6-months and we weren't expecting a striker this window anyway, he's rapid backup who might get us goals on the rebound/spills/off posts corners. He looks more skillful than BJ, at least. The competition might help Richie and BJ, too.

If Werner hits the ground running he’ll play through the middle with Sonny left. Ange will gradually bring real pace to the side. For 6 months this could be a bang average signing or a master stroke. Against the better teams who don’t sit in Werner is a massive weapon to have centrally.

People still going on about not replacing Kane yet totally ignoring the fact that we have one of the best strikers in world football playing for us who has literally replaced him will never not be funny to me.

He will probably replace Bryan Gil anyway on the left and he is a far better player than Gil.

This is the thing sometimes fans don’t get when we are linked with Werner or Gallagher, nobody is saying they are Messi but they are significant improvements over Bryan Gil and Hojbjerg/Skipp so when it comes time to sub or we have injuries the standard doesn’t drop massively.
Brilliant

I think that is exactly what this is.

When Son is back and fully up to speed, I don’t see him playing much unless he finds the form of his life.

De Bruyne and Salah come under chavs rejects. Just maybe in the right team and system he’ll tear it up. Madders playing through balls behind centre backs is now an option for us. Or even Porro playing those diagonal long passes in behind the furthest away centre back is more of an option now.
