Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Timo Werner has

405 club games
150 goals
79 assists

One thing looking through his stats on transfer market his numbers shoot up when he's playing under a Manager who favours a high press.

Also 57 Germany caps
24 goals.

I've always thought he was a good player, although he probably was a tad underwhelming at Chelsea possibly due to the high transfer fee. Still had decent numbers though.

He does sometimes have a weird tendency to be the best player on the pitch and the worst player at the same time.

I think it could be a great bit of business though, our style will suit him down to the ground and definitely has the potential to score and assist plenty for us.

Smart and low risk signing if it happens.

Really odd. If we were going for a restoration project, personally I’d much rather take a punt (and I know it would’ve been a gamble) on someone like Sancho or Ekitike. Loans with options for 6 months and we get wide players who can also dribble (Ekitike can also play 9).

What I would say is, from a scouting and analytics point of view, Werner is as close Son in profile as you could possibly find. Maybe that’s where this has come from.

At some stage with Son aged 32 later this season, we will need to face the possibility of replacing him.

So maybe we have taken the opportunity to get someone in early to see his credentials before we need to take a decision - the forward planning many fans criticise the club for not doing ?

Have you watched Ekitike?

PSG is a weird af club, but the kid did get chances, especially his first season, and he was utter garbage...playing next to Messi, Neymar, Bappe.

Despite his height, he would struggle mightily in the PL cause he doesn't like to fight.

He's going to Wolfsburg anyway, where he'll probably do well and give his reputation a new lease of life. Good luck to him.

Great point.
What is our success rate with "strikers" from Germany?

Making ambitious, targeted signings that take your club to the next level
You mean like Porro, Udogie, Bentancur, Sarr, Kulusevski, Bissouma, VDV, Romero, Vicario...

Those kind of ambitious, targeted signings? The ones that fit the system like a glove and, when fit, had us deservedly top of the table?

We've been targeting these type of signing for a while now, highly technical, highly talented players, with the right mentality. We've finally got a manager that utilise those attributes.

Look at that list I've just put up and tell me that we won't have at least 5 of them up there in the 'elite' for their roles. I'd go as far as 7 personally.

I get the feeling your idea of ambitious is expensive. If I'm wrong then forgive me, but all I'm seeing are ambitious signings there. What I think pushes many people's buttons is that they're not coming fast enough. That I can understand, we're all impatient for the finished product and the promise of silverware. I'd rather we took our time to get the right signings though, regardless of the price.

Just imagine the joyous chav piss boiling if Werner comes here and starts banging them in for fun after his difficult time there.
For that prospect alone, I’m in for the loan.

Including the 6 Richy already has? Can't see it. We're not gonna play a loan player over a 60m signing when our first team is fully fit, whether we are selling him in summer or pinning our hopes on him we need to give him maximum game time between now and the end of the season. Can see Werner starting till Sonny is back then mostly being the first guy off the bench after that.
That will all depend on whether he delivers or not.

If he does, I'll bet you a pound to a piece of shit that he'll rotate Werner, Richarlison and Son, with Son and Richy being rotated at CF more often than not.

Can’t say I’m too enthused yet about an attacker who ‘is not known for his physicality, aerial game, or hold–up play’ and had Frank Lampard break him at Chelsea, although Frank seems to be as shit a manager as Rooney, so maybe the damage can be undone.
