Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I want a new CB in as much as anyone... but not whoever we can get in by the United match. It has to be the right guy. Otherwise we are stuck with a player we don't want and we can't sell.

Yeh; with one match between now and the window closing on 31st Jan...... The complexion of the matter is all about getting the right player(s) in...... Not that it wasn't always that way.

Did okay at Lens, flopped at Rennes, never used at Forest, now playing for Sevilla who are struggling mightily...though their whole team is meh.

Not that quick, not that strong, gets caught out of position, seems to not know how/when to press, wasteful in possession, has been sent off once this season...but yeah he can carry the ball a bit, makes decent clearances, is a danger for the other team on set pieces and he's made the team of the week a few times since he's in La Liga.

Defo wouldn't be my plan A, B or C and I can't say I'm over the moon with it being Jan 10th and we're talking about this kid to solve our CB crisis. Yeah yeah it's January, we have no money, Bayern a bigger draw etc etc, but that defo feels underwhelming.

But the usual "if Ange fancies him then I'll back him etc etc".
Yea this doesn’t sound that great really.

I sorta feared we’d get gazzumped should we not seal the deal fast enough… I’m into checking out Ko Itakura at Borussia Monchengladbach should we fail to sign him. Seems like he’d be able to cover at RB potentially too. Gives me Davies vibes as a very dependable understudy.

But with Phillips on loan, Davies injured and Eric seemingly departing, we don’t have too much choice but to get the next best thing
We’ll play VDV and Royal at CB and PEH as a break glass in case of emergency option.

Romero should be back for City and I’d imagine that Davies is as well considering he finished the match that he “did” his hammy in.

There is no need to sign someone in a panic because Dragusin snubbed us just to have a body.

That’s fair enough if we’ve scouted and are happy with him coming in.

I just don’t like the idea of needing to get someone over the line by the weekend if Dragusin says no just to make up the numbers.
You have to question how a guy who couldn't get a single minute for Forest in a season where they ultimately shipped 68 goals is going to do anything other than make up the numbers for us. I'd rather take a punt on Kelly or Tosin, at least they are already accustomed to the PL, even if they too aren't the targets we wanted. Kelly and Tosin inevitably have resale value due to age and HG status as well, if Badé flops he'll be worth fuck all like Sanchez.

Tosin seems like one who wouldn’t pass the Ange personality assessment based on him being zeroed in on a move abroad from the summer.

Kelly has an unfortunate injury record but when I’ve watched him, I actually really like his game.

My guess is that, wages being about equal, Dragusin has the choice of:

1. Being our 3rd choice CB with no European football this year in the Premier League.
2. Being the (probable) 4th choice in a trophy winning team with European football (although he’s unlikely to start there) in the Bundesliga.
There are pros and cons to both.

Edited to add: Any agent worth his salt squeezes another 5% out of one of the teams.

Yes fair enough. Also, on the money thing, I wonder if we’re being relatively conservative in January because we have a big fish planned for the summer, and if we spend too much now, FFP rules mean we can’t spend what we’d need to then

He’s theirs. It’s blatantly obvious. Jan 10th and we have embarked on a wild roller coaster ride/goose chase culminating in absolutely fuck all except some good ol public humiliation and reminder of our lowly place in the contemporary club football hierarchy.

On to the next one. Hope Emerson and Davies can keep United at bay.
