Yeah you may be right. The kid may well be able to provide cover at the 8 or 10 the moment he lands. He'll defo get pre-season to show what he's got. But for his development I still think it'd be best for him to play week in week out, which he likely would at a Fulham or Palace type...and for sure at a Swansea, QPR...

My opinion only, but I think they're both miles off being PL ready, even as bench options. Send them to Boro under Carrick, or Luton if they go back down.

To be honest I like Emerson and only reason I said sell him is so we raise some cash plus free up a roster spot. But may as well keep him and Big Ben...both proper club guys and with European comps next year (and likely more injuries/suspensions), they'll get mins.

Only reason it looks like a lot of business to be done in one window, both ins & outs...is cause we're still paying the price of years of insufficient/dumb activity.

But a club of our stature, with our finances + facilities + London appeal should be able to bring in 3 new starters of CL pedigree + 3 or 4 solid rotation pieces without any issue.

Re outs, apart from Ndombele (huge wages & a lazy thundercunt) and Sessegnon (man's a hospital bed), we should be able to ship all that deadwood out. Take the hit on Spence, Reggy, Lo Celso...and just move the eff on.

I think we can definitely get 3 new starters and no reason to think we wouldn't.

Only thing in that for me is that the FW we need probably has to be special. That might cost the same as 2 players.

We need a bona-fide star at DM and another upfront (winger or ST...or who can play both roles). No ifs or buts. We got the money.

The other 5 or 6 players we need, we saw with Vic and Udog that you don't have to spend zillions to get dudes who can contribute immediately and at a high level, whilst having plenty upside. Great, diligent scouting gets you those 20mil gems in the making.

Say we gotta fork out 200-250 mil to get everything we need, so be it. We got the dosh and FFP wiggle room. Qualify for the CL end of next season by finishing P3/P4, win a domestic and/or European trophy (even the shitty League Cup and ECL)...and you're already recouping some of that. Big names means big merch sales too. And unless our decision-makers shit the bed, we should be able to sell the likes of Hojbjerg, Biss, Lo Celso and even Rodon & Spence for a few bobs.

Pub league is incredibly harsh on the Portuguese league.

Ronaldo, Ruben Dias, Bruno Fernandes, Ederson, Ramires, Raul Jiminez.. They've all come from Portugal league and settled very well in the Premier League, if anything it's the ultimate proving ground for our league.

Also, Gyokeres isn't only doing it in the league, he's been scoring in Europa as well. As for the championship, we are we acting like it's a shit league? Some of the most exciting players have come from the Championship.
I admit it’s harsh and you raise a good point about Europa.

As I said, he could be a very good player. I’m just reluctant to engage in conversations about him being “world class” when he has never played in a top European league (Serie A, La Liga, Premier League etc).

It’s not just the 250m it’s the wages too. We need to offer wages that compete with the teams above us.

Yeah of course. But we can afford that too. Only the board doesn't wanna. Not our model blah blah blah.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want us to go pay silly wages a la United and bleed money a la Chelsea under Roman, but time for Levy & his gang to realise that if you wanna compete with the big boys and beat them to the shiny cups, you gotta stop acting that tight. You keep spending 2nd rate money, you remain a bridesmaid.

Okay, apologies for the long one and yeah, I know...it ain't Football Manager, Levy never gonna sign off on that many Ins & Outs, what crack am I on etc etc.

But say we're really serious about challenging and winning stuff, as the big fella keeps banging on about...well let's be real, we ain't just one or two players short. No way. This season has proved it (yet again).

My opinion and my opinion only, but this is where I think we're at re summer biz required. Priority signings in red.

2024/25 Squad

GK: Vic - Newbie - Frase

RB: Newbie - Porro
RCB: Cuti - Radu
LCB: Micky - Newbie
LB: Udo - Newbie

DM: Newbie - Skippy
CM: Sarr - Roddy
AM: Madders - Newbie

RW: Johnson - Newbie
LW: Newbie - Newbie

ST: Sonny - Richy

Utility men: Davies, Kulu

That makes it a 25-man squad, knowing we can recall loans or integrate Academy kids if need be.

Some of them 9 signings must be English cause we're getting desperately short of them...we're an English club playing in the English Premier League...

**************************************************
Loan w/o option: Ashley, Bergvall, Donley, Devine, one or two of our starlet forwards (Moore, Jude, Lankshear...)
Loan with option or oblig: Yago, Scarlett, Veliz
**************************************************
Sell: Emerson, Spence, Tanganga, Rodon, Sessegnon, Reguilon, Hojbjerg, Bissouma, Lo Celso, Gil, Solomon, Parrott...unfortunately nobody will buy the fat cunt so another loan for him

Sonny and Richy only as striking choice,no,we need another striker. Also Bergvall will not be loaned next year he will be challenging for a place.

We have 5 or 6 pretty good midfield players. Sarr is young and will be a very good player for years. Biss talented but kinda flaky and needs the opposition to play a certain way for him to be at his best. Hojbjerg good squad player, probably gone soon. Maddison, super talented nearly really great player, injury prone, struggling to find his level after 2/3 injuries. Bentancur, good player, very good at times, not quite top level, plus a bad knee injury.

We have a midfield good enough to be 4th / 5th every year, need a top 6 and an adequate Maddison alternative. Hopefully Bentacur can find his form / adjust to this style of play for next season.

Forward line is a much bigger problem than the midfield.

When they are not scoring, which none of them do prolifically except Son, what they are doing is mid table at best.

Skipp over Bissouma? Bonkers.

GK: Vic - Newbie - Youngster

RB: Newbie - Porro
RCB: Cuti - Radu

DM: Bissouma-Newbie
CM: Sarr - Berg?
AM: Madders - Newbie(Eze)

Obviously we aren’t going to bring all these newbie’s in at once. I would prioritise a CF, WL, WR forwards. A LCB or CB who can actually play football better than Drag and then LB and RB positions.

They have done incredibly to achieve what they have with the cheapness of spending so far really but surely even they need to see that they already reached the ceiling of their model early with Poch and have been treading water, then going backwards ever since.

Time's up. I'd like Levy to win things, honestly I would but the time has come where that has to happen or he needs to step aside.

To compete in europe with a 25 player squad we need 4 Club trained players.

Currently we have 2 players in our squad who are club trained - Austin (3rd GK) and Skipp.

So unless one of your newbies are Walker-Peters or Cirkin (or a very short list of others), the maximum number of players in our squad can be 23 players.

Or it was just a one off and a bad day at the office consisting of players out of form and carrying a knock or two.

That same midfield pretty much went toe to toe with the team top of the Premier League and came out of it unscathed.
I am actually tempted to watch the game again  as I don't think we played that much differently to usual. Son disagrees, though!
As in most games we gave up good chances to the opposition. No doubt VDV would have won the foot race for the first and that would have put an entirely different complexion on the game.
The second half we created the Werner chance and many good opps.

no more mid level signings, it only gets you to a certain point. if it's not a young player then it should only be players of the highest quality from now on

I don't think Awoniyi is mid. Really good striker, counts as HG and he upgrades us and allows us to move Richarlison on.

Alas, I don't think Ange wants a striker this summer. I also don't think it's anywhere near top of the priority list as a 6 or two side players are.

He's one of the most obnoxious and arrogant chairmen out there. He wants to show everybody he's the one and only genius who could beat the big rich fuckers whilst spending a fraction of their budget.

Nice one, thanks for the deets, my man.

I'm not even bothered about Europe, though. I just want us to sign English players cause that's what an english club should do.

Equally does my head in when I watch AC Milan and they field 11 foreign players.
