Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No one is annoyed, in the slightest, that Ange wanted to win. Were annoyed that he claimed not to understand why fans might want to see us lose the game.

He knows full well. He wouldn’t have said anything that daft in Scotland and it’s not going to wash down here.

He was talking bollocks. And his misjudged words have allowed the usual weasels in the media to spin it so that the fans are holding Spurs back.

Genuinely. Fuck off. (Weasels, not Ange)

I’m not blaming Ange, it was a ridiculous week. But he needs to cut that shit out.

He talks about himself too much.

I agree. When it's been good its been excellent. But it really fizzled out, and at times lately it's largely been a chore, especially in the first 45 minutes of games.

Ultimately I think we were all spoilt for a while, at the beginning of the season. Since then it's been a mixed bag. We've seen players get injured, players lose form, and a lot of frustrated glances from Ange on the touchline. I think the end of the season has come at the right time. We can all watch some decent footy at the Euros, watch England bring it home until they don't, and then come back to the more important stuff with Spurs with a refresh. A few astute signings in the summer will have us all believing once again.

See, now this I do agree with.

Annoyed with only playing good football (albeit without the cutting edge we need) for 45-60 mins in a game.

That definitely needs to improve, and I believe it will. But we create plenty of chances, and with the right signings up front over the summer, we could be banging goals in for fun next season.

How the fuck has the media narrative become that it is Spurs fans fault that the team have basically won 4/5ths of fuck all in a third of a century?

Ridiculous. Our support given the lack of success is second to none.

Bunch of cunts the lot of them.
Our away support in particular is great. Home a bit patchier imho. You always hear our away support when watching us on TV (yes, I know).

Hate to say this as well but he's a Liverpool supporter, I don't understand how he can claim that he is "out of step" (his words) with why people care about rivalries when he literally supports a PL team and one that has the most vociferous whiny fanbases in football.

To an extent but I think he's clearly been as frustrated as anyone at times that the team wasn't doing what he wanted them to. The fact that Maddison went from one of the best players in the country, form wise, to looking bang average, the effect on the team that has had can't be under-stated. Bentancur is another who hasn't rediscovered his previous form yet. These are big, big players for us.

The defending is a big problem. And personally I think Bissouma is a big reason for that. He's just not a top holding midfielder for me. In an attacking side with full-backs that love to bomb forward at every chance your holding midfielder needs to be top notch, and he simply isn't.
If it was only Maddison, or only Deki, or only Bentancur that had lost form, I'd say it was the player.
But at least half our squad have regressed. Bissouma, Sarr, Bentancur, Maddison, Kulu, Son even at times. Throw in Richarlison having a purple patch then looking woeful, promising signs from Johnson only to go off the boil. Even Werner got a few assists and a couple of goals early doors, but then seemed to stop contributing.
That's too many players losing form for me for it to be a player issue. Either the coaching isn't right, or they're not buying into the coach and can't be arsed.

Great post. Hope he’s learnt from this and we can all move on…

Yeah I go back a couple of years and missing out on the CL fucked Woolwich up!!!!

That was the start of our domination.

Stop being a big tart.
It did hurt them. 22 straight years of getting into the CL and finishing above us. Followed by what, 6 years without it? They ended up finishing 8th 2 years in a row as things got so bad and toxic.
What was their solution to their problem? You'll probably say giving Arteta time. But it's not just that, is it? They gave him half a billion quid - mostly net. They kicked shite like Ozil, Lacazette etc out for no transfer fee just to clear out. We're never gonna do that. So if we decline to the level they did, it's gonna take a miracle to get back.

Let's hope he sets the record straight in the next presser and everyone can move on from this unfortunate week and we can focus on what is important, ending the season with a win and looking forward to progress both domestically and in Europe next season.

So you don't think we're conceding too many goals or that our defence of set pieces is woeful?
Of course I think that.

I think some of that is circumstantial from injuries, some of it is structural like not having the squad to manage the injuries. There is some system issues in there because it needs rhythm to function perfectly and has been shown that without the depth to maintain that rhythm it can be very high risk.

The set pieces thing is important as well but I’d expect that to be a relatively easy fix. Has even been much better the last 2-3 games.

Overall, I see some periods of the best football I can remember and a very encouraging start.

Don't worry, the supporter's trust is onto it. They'll have Ange understanding the NL rivalry in no time.

:paraticiwink:
Too right. Next seasons pre match interview when we play them will be

‘ we will do these fucking drongo gallahs on and off the pitch tomorrow. Woolwich can invent their phoney north London anthem, but we know their origins. Can’t wait to stuff them and tell them to fuck off back to south London. And yes mate, Alan Sunderland was the Yorkshire rippers twin brother’

Momentum and confidence can be hugely beneficial to a team. But yeah, we can agree to disagree there.

I don't think it's taken Ange a whole season. He's been aware of our offensive deficiencies all season. But you're not going to get your number one targets in January.

But if you can get the other players who have a future here repeating it, it's second nature when the right components are in place.

Pochettino was still playing Fazio in a fucking high line come May of his first season mate. 😂😂

I don't think the club is stupid enough to sack a manager who gets potentially 66 points in his first season in charge despite all the issues from start to finish.

There's been enough there for him to warrant a second as well as be backed. Let's hope he gets it.

Momentum can absolutely be benefitial, but anyone ever having participated in competition can tell you that playing every day or every other day on your peak level is just not possible. It is also possible to keep momentum playing once a week, as very well shown by Leicester in their title winning season or Newcastle last year when they could focus on league.

I agree that in January you would not get your top targets, but that still does not force you to repeat something that very obviously does not work (again Kulu being winger in this system or Son being one supposed to bang in headers).

And last paragraph looks just like really lazy thinking. Number of things to say about that -
First of all -
66 points per season is very unremarkable achievement. It is 6 more than the absolute clusterfuck of a last season when we were managed by half-amateurs with 0 coaching experience
Second of all -
What issues from start to finish?!? You are talking more about excuses than issues. Only negative factor is selling Kane (and on counterweight getting in CB, LB and AM of superb class- as overall quality I'd say we improved), everything else is 100% business as usual.
Third of all -
Question is - is it 66 on upward trend (improving) or 66 on downward trend. Right now it has been very clearly downward, with 26 points from 10 and EVEN IF we get win in last round, 40 points from 28 - that is 3/4 of season going in 1,42 ppg tempo which is sackable form for almost 75% of season.

So it's much more a bet or putting trust as advance to coach.
Which is fine and sometimes leap of faith IS needed and CAN BE right choice.
But people somehow cannot admit cold facts, and try to make it look like there wouldn't be any questionmarks whatsoever.

Let's be real, there are is no pedigree whatsoever within our coaching team.

Ange can whinge about the fans, complain about the players, we can blame the ownership all we like, but when the guys charged with training your expensively assembled squad are pub league then you're never going to get more than the sum of your parts, and most likely you'll end up with less.

Who's our goalkeeping coach, Rob Burch?

First team coaches Mile Jedinak, Ryan Mason, and that bloke who's grandad used to play for Spurs back when life was in black and white???

Maybe they are all great, but the evidence on the pitch points to them being sub-standard, and I'd hope for significant additions in that area, if not even a complete overhaul.

It also strikes me as strange that Ange doesn't ever bring any of his previous staff with him, most managers have at least a couple that travel everywhere with them. That he doesn't suggests that either he thinks he's so great that he can impart his wisdom and ways onto any old human vessel, or he doesn't see it as that important.

There isn’t a team that plays their best football for 90 mins.
Even City are dull for long periods of most games.

Football is essentially quite a boring game.

Had champions league winning coaches tell me that too!

Although I feel 1-0 is becoming less and less common. Wonder if the stats back that up as being to do with rule changes and increases in added time.
