I'm not going to be upset if we ended up making a late move for Toney and got him in to compete with Richarlison. We will have alot of games, Richy has been unreliable with fitness at times and he's HG.

But I feel like unless we get the targets we need to get in, it's a a bit of a waste. Like you say, he's perfectly suited to a club like Brentford and their brand of football. Not to say it won't translate but his goalscoring record minus the penalties doesn't really move me. If we just want a lump to be able to hold the ball up, there's plenty of them.

Though to be fair, Richarlison put in one of the best "target man" performances I'd seen in ages last season, I think against Brighton.

We really need to stop repeating this narrative, it's baseless.

This is him in the Championship before they went up, scored 31 goals that season, finished top scorer in the league and made team of the year, Brentford scored the most goals that season and were playing on the front foot, shows you that Toney can play in such a team:

And look you can see a lot of Ange type goals there as well, getting across defenders, being at the far post, playing as a poacher etc...

Before anyone says it's the Championship...I get it it's not the Premier League but let's just have some consistency in our arguments because players like Adam Wharton and Archie Gray get constantly lauded on here for being the best players down there, Ollie Watkins is one of the best strikers in this league who used to play for the same team in the Champo who scoring goals and translated that to the prem.

Toney's game shouldn't be withered down to being a target man, people are making assumptions because he's tall and strong, he can play multiple amount of roles as a striker which should be look on favourably, not down on.

I’ve constantly been banging the drum for Toney, he’s the closest to Kane you’ll ever find in this market, but I don’t think he’s an Ange player, nor will Brentford do us any favours with the fee, so I find it incredibly unrealistic.
Just can’t help to reflect that a club who could sign the likes of Lineker and Klinsman now does not think it’s realistic to sign a Brentford journeyman. Just mediocre as a club ain’t we ?

He wasn't wrong though.
He said they let him have the ball as he can do fuck all with it. We then spunked 45m on him.

Strange when we had Toby and Jan, two of the smoothest operators you'll ever see
It's not some tactical genius though, Sanchez was just a kid himself (as was the entire team - Just for reference Tanganga is 25!). It was a cunt thing for Mourinho to say after the final, the only reason why he did so is to make him look good, what else does he have to gain from saying it. Imagine what it does to a young kid, uncalled for especially after they have lost. Just be gracious in defeat and praise your opponents.

I think we got Sanchez in solely to cover Jan and Toby in our Highline. Toby's hammies had gone by then and Jan never had pace in the first place. Most teams just played the ball over the top of our defence back then, and I recall Sanchez doing just fine at this (playing alongside Jan mainly). The problem was the rest of the squad was also beginning to struggle, Kane had long since stopped pressing, no Dembele, or Wanyama in midfield, Just Sissoko arse to get in the way of oppo attacks and Walker was replaced with Frodo coughing up possession as soon as he looked at the ball, it was becoming a mess all around.

Yes, Sanchez basically played with his shoelaces tied together. Just hate that cunt the dinosaur being a cunt more.

In all honesty, what's he doing in that video that we don't get from what we already have?

Few headers. Goals from set pieces. Counter attack goals and to my shock, 10 penalties.

He's nothing special. Never has been and never will be. But hey, he looks straight at the goalkeeper when taking a penalty so that's cool.

I posted that video to counter your completely lazy and unjustified claims of him being a striker who is limited who can only hold the ball up, he's not some Andy Carrol regen mate, the guy can play, if you actually watched him in the Championship and he's even shown it in the Prem.

Yes a few headers, goals from set pieces...like what are you expecting a striker to actually do apart from score goals exactly?

Special? I hate it when people do this straw man crap...no one said he's anything special and he doesn't even need to he special, no one is going to replace Harry Kane, he is out and out a better striker than Richarlison, he represents an upgrade whether you like it or not.

Less of the bad faith arguments pls 👍

I didn't call Toney limited.

I asked what he's better than Richarlison at that's worth an extra 40m being spent. Most responses to those questions are he's better at holding the ball up and linking play. Brilliant. And like I said, if that's all we're wanting, there's plenty out there.

I didn't expect a video of lockdown Championship football to be used as some sort of persuasion though, so fair play.

Fact is, he probably isn't worth splashing 40m+ on. When we have about three or four other positions that need strengthening and a striker that's basically got an identical goals to minute ratio in the Premier League when playing as one.

Like I said, I'm not going to be upset if we sign Toney at the end of the window. But I'd be quite disappointed if a fair bit of money is spent on him and we've not splashed in positions that really matter.

Would a stadium naming rights sponsor name not boost it a hell of a lot more
I think so - even if you sold it for 20M per season on a 15 year deal (which seems realistic), it would transform our spending for a season and you could leverage it and spend 300M plus regular budget in a window on 5 top players at the right age

Tee you up for success for the next 5+ years at least, and probably yield a return on investment in CL etc
