I’d fucking love us to sign one, genuine balls to the wall attacking superstar.

I get the focus on youth and developing players before they turn into stars, but we absolutely have to be able to compete for the occasional marquee signing.

Best we will get is "Tottenham are interested in considering making a preliminary offer for..."

We go in to marquee signing deals limp wristed deliberately, then try and fob off that a Brennan Johnson or someone is a marquee signing because we are paying 50 million over 500 years and 5000 add ons.

If so there will surely be a few clubs nicked next season when these deals are properly scrutinised.
Only reason Juve got done was their phones were being tapped in an investigation for another crime(Don't do two crimes at once). Others, most notably Napoli, 100% did the same but not punished. Almost impossible to prove even if it's heavily suspected.

No clubs will be nicked even when it's blatent

I think we will make an official bid later in the window.

He's on 200k now (probably after tax). Chelsea cant win him with wages
Chelsea have Lukaku and Sterling on 325k, James on 250k, Chilwell and both Fofana's on 200k

I'm pretty sure they could put a wage packet together that dwarves anything we would, even with the free sky walks.

What I'm saying is Chelsea would offer him or any player 'double' what we would. They might offer Williams 350k whilst we look around the 150-200k mark max, yet if players were given the choice of Spurs or Chelsea, most would pick Chelsea even if receiving a lower compensation.

I’m not so sure. We’ve been courting him for too long. The new Chav board will hold its nose and take 40-50 million now rather than lose him on a free.
Media probably got wind of a tiny bit of interest and ran with it.

Never happen under Levy.
That takes a big fee, big wages, big bonus, big agent fees. The package is way too much.
He could sign a high fee payer on moderate wages, or a high earner for a low fee. But never both.
